Emynd’s “Trigger Man Club Theme”: DOWNLOAD
As is pretty much common knowledge by now, The Show Boys “Drag Rap (Trigger Man)” is one of the most important records to ever hit the South. While made by a couple of Run DMC’s peers in Hollis Queens, the song went on to be a huge hit in clubs in New Orleans, Texas, Memphis, and all across the South. The recognizable melody has been sampled what must be thousands of times for counltess numbers of NOLA Bounce classics and the unmistakable “WHO!” and “Alright!” samples still show up frequently in rap records from NOLA, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Houston. The “Drag Rap” record was never really that important up north and I honestly have no idea if it was any big in Baltimore (though I suspect not. In a recent phone conversation from the inimitable noz who currently resides in DC (and who will surely despise the remix posted above), DJ Jimi declared that “Nobody in DC likes ‘Trigger Man!’”). That being said, I always thought this track would sound great as a Bmore inspired club track so I went ahead and made one (for those familiar with my stuff, I used the triggerman loop on “I See Some Thick Jawns” from my White Ts and White Belts EP on Flaminhotz). While I don’t think it’s a tear-the-club-down smash club track, I do think it sounds quite good in the club and is a useful party track nonetheless.
