Finally! More Bounce music! It’s been waaaay too long since I did the first installment of Bounce It for the Mad Decent Podcast. I’m very happy to say that that mix had a pretty eye-opening effect on a huge population of folks who previously had never heard of New Orleans Bounce Music. I got more then a few emails stating something along the lines of “HOLY CRAP HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS MUSIC EXISTED?!” I’m also happy to report that in recent years, several New Orleans Bounce artists have started to reach outside of New Orleans and do shows across the US, particularly Big Freedia who has been on a tear for the last two years or so. This mix isn’t quite as exhaustive in its coverage of Bounce music and is definitely more focused on my own stuff, but I think it’s a really fun listen from top to bottom. Most of these songs are available for download on Nolabounce.com or on The Bouncespot Soundcloud page and I’ve done my best to provide individual download links where available in the tracklist below.

As always, I really hope y’all enjoy this mix and I encourage every single one of you to visit New Orleans sometime soon. It’s a city unlike any other in the US and even though its come a long way since Katrina, they still need our tourist dollars going in. So, do yourself a favor and go party in New Orleans ASAP! Photographs, oral histories, and video footage compiled by photographer Aubrey Edwards and journalist Alison Fensterstock document the passing of seminal beats from New Orleans music traditions to a new generation in the late 1980’s, and the creation of this new voice in Southern roots music. This multi-media archive draws a line to the present-day diaspora, as Hurricane Katrina has scattered a once tight-knit bounce and hip-hop community whose music only existed at home — a home that has been redefined physically and culturally.”

A couple months back, my folks at Unruly Records were asked to get some remixes of “Video Phone” together. They shouted at me to get one together and I thought the jawn would sound cool sped up to Bounce speed. I didn’t want to use any samples in the remix, so that’s why the drums don’t have the authentic “Drag Rap” or “Brown Beat” sounds, but I think it’s a fun remix nonetheless. Additionally, this remix is a bit a interpolation of the classic Bounce joint by Big Daddie and Bossman’s “Ya Heard Me Part 2″ which I’ve also posted below. I’m so excited to introduce the world to So Shifty with their very first official release of their own original material here in the *Wine Touch Clap EP.* Everyone from Sinden to Diplo to Radioclit have been showing support to these dudes for months, and I’m so psyched this release finally came together. Featuring Ward 21′s Kunley, Tifa, Timberlee, and Natalie Storm (aka TNT) on vocal work, each of the three originals has a really unique and yet totally consumable vibe: these songs are forward-thinking yet accessible.
