J Rizzle Presents Essence Of Jay Electronica

J. Rizzle Presents Essence Of Jay Electronica by J. Rizzle

I’m not ready to proclaim Jay Electronica the next coming of early 90s Nasir Jones, but I do find some his work (at the very LEAST) worth paying attention to. I’m kind’ve waiting until he hits me with an official project before I pass judgment on his ultimate worth but, that being said, this is a fun mix of original samples and some of his bigger songs from the dude J. Rizzle. Check it out!

Scott Matelic is here.

Scotty Matelic

What’s good, party peoples? My name is Scott Matelic, a recent Brooklyn transplant from Indianapolis, Indiana. I’m a DJ/Producer/record collector who has decided to join the ranks of the CFB blogging crew. I figured I would hit you all off with a track of some sort, and so here it is–a quick and shortened revamp of M.O.P.’s classic “Ante Up.” Obviously, nothing tops the original version, but I like the idea of hip hop acappellas over UBB style breaks–and these are two of my favorites (Gaz “Sing Sing” and Banbarra “Shack Up”). Plus, the tempo adjustment allows you to slip it into sets that were formerly “non-M.O.P bpm friendly”.

Have at it.

Ante Up (Scott Matelic’s Disco Break Mix) by Scott Matelic

Best of Jadakiss (Bo Bliz)

I’ve done a few of these “best of” tapes, all to guys deserving of them, guys I kind of wanted to make “highlight reels” of their albums. Not necessarily because the albums weren’t hot or solid or whatever, but just to put all real heat in one place. This Jadakiss is the same concept, and definitely something you can ride to this summer. You can stream it above or download it below.

Ted Smooth Remixes

If you’re not up on the homie Ted Smooth and his remixes, you need to be. He fairly routinely takes an already popping club song and gives it some classic NY flavor. Definitely useful in certain situations. His whole library of downloads is up in the link below. My favorites are the “Daddy’s Home” remix with a couple verses from Jadakiss, the already classic “Blame It” remix with the “Down for My Ni**az” horns, and a great Dirty Money “Angels” remix. Follow dude on Twitter to stay up to date with his new heat.

The Just Blaze Collection

Sean Fennesy just posted about 200 Just Blaze productions for download. It’s a fairly comprehensive collection though I’m sure he’s missing a couple joints here and there. Regardless, it’s an excellent look for your ipods.

Jimi Hendrix + Foxy Brown = Foxy Lady

I don’t think this ever made its way onto anything official so I ripped it from a Killer Kuts 12″ I have. It’s a really fucking dope track. Foxy does her thing on it and Just Blaze (I think) kills the beat. Usually super obvious samples like this don’t work well, but this shit totally knocks. Additionally, I made a drum edit of the original Jimi Hendrix track to knock in the clubs. Just looped up some open drums from the Foxy track and produced around the Hendrix song. I think it’s pretty dope and should work well in the clubs for the right crowd (it goes in my “Rock Dance” folder in Serato). Thoughts and comments always appreciated.

True School Tuesdays: Ron B “Stitch By Stitch” (1990)

Classic piano loop and Ron B (not to be confused with Ron C) just killing it. Perfect rap song.

True School Tuesdays : Mic Geronimo “Masta IC”

I’m not entirely sure why, but I’ve recently had the pleasure of rediscovering a shitload of True School rap songs that dominated my teenage years over the past couple weeks. Every Tuesday, I’m going to try and share some of my favorites from the era. Most of these songs will be pretty obvious to anyone that grew up around this time, but as the world becomes increasingly digitized, it’s easy to lose track of stuff. Hopefully this will help remedy that loss.

And starting TRUE SCHOOL TUESDAYS off proper, I chose to hit y’all off with what is strangely one of my favorite beats of all time: Buckwild’s “Masta IC” for Mic Geronimo. Geronimo is a capable MC that had a couple solid albums, but he’s not really anything spectacular on the ‘phone. Just a solid rapper who doesn’t ruin beats. But there’s just something about this beat that I’ve always found really powerful even though it’s melodically fairly understated–just a rolling xylophone line and some heavy sub bass with a boombap breakbeat as the backbone. Buckwild has always been more than competent at constructing really full sounding production with a simple sample, filtered bassline, and a break.

More stuff to come.

Wassup family? Its been a minute since I dropped a mix on here. This one is less focused than some of my older mixes on here, but I wanted to drop a mix for you guys to bang in your cars, at your bbq’s, block parties etc. The summer is finally in full swing… Let it be a memorable one with this playing in the background.

I put some relatively new stuff on there (Amerie, Rick Ross, & Playboy Tre), and I always throw on some classic joints in these types of mixes. I also spotlighted some Philly shit, some old, and one track from an up and coming artist “Tu Phace” who you will be hearing a lot more about in the future- I’m certain of that. I kept the vibe summery. Whether its on reminiscin’ type shit, or on some smoothed out type shit, these tracks all make sense for the season.

As always, shout out to Emil for hooking up the art work and a big shout to Federation’s Kenny Meez who is a true king on the reggae tip. He’s a dude whose podcasts I follow to stay up on reggae as best I can. Look for Emynd & Bo Bliz to collab with that man on some parties in the future.

Here’s the tracklist:

1. UGK “Swishas and Dosha”
2. Busy Signal “Hustle Hard”
3. Meek Mill “Ain’t I”
4. J Money “1st Name Last Name”
5. J Money/Yung LA “This is How We Play”
6. Vital “Herbalist”
