Uh, this is weird. I can’t tell if it’s good, but I definitely think it’s blog worthy. John Forte remaking Kate Bush’s 1985 “Running Up That Hill.

A quick, unofficial remix/blend pack (“DONT CALL IT A MASH UP! IT’s BEEN HERE FOR YEARS!”) I put together after downloading the Major Lazer banger with Mr. Lexx and Santigold “Hold the Line”. Put it over a couple of the hottest club beats right now (“Swag On” and “Ain’t I”), crunked it up with some Lil Jon vox, and put together a couple early night blends as well. If you don’t have the OG, hit up the Mad Decent blog and get it now. Otherwise, I hope you find these useful!

I’ve been neglecting my CFB fam but what better time to slide back in with a throwback what with Bliz’s buzzworthy Schooly D Mix in fresh circulation and my right calf muscle still twitching from all of the B-Boy dancing I did at the ridiculously epic “The Year is 1988” party this past weekend? Thanks to both, I’ve taken a break from April’s sudden electro-pop obsession to come back home to my beloved old-school hip-hop. The first song I had to look up was “Mistadobalina,” by Del Tha Funkee Homosapien (who I had no idea was Ice Cube’s cousin). Check it out:
Cute and catchy song, but “fraudulent foe with the strength of Hercules/the way ya on my dick must really hurt ya knees” is the perfect example of a lyric that I didn’t pick up on in 1991 when this song came out. Aside from exchanging his “Tha Funkee” for the linguistically preferable “The Funky,” Del hasn’t changed his style much. He just dropped the album Funk Man (The Stimulus Package) last month – it’s free and even comes with written lyrics, which I find pretty odd but at least I’ll catch his next hip-hop quotable if there’s one to be had. I’ll leave that for y’all to judge.

And now for something completely different… When I first envisioned the 1st & 15th Mix Series, I imagined it becoming slightly more diverse than it’s so far shaped up to be. This mix is the first step in attempting to push this mix series outward and onward. So, this time around, we invited our dude Sal Paradise to do a mix and he chose a really interesting change of pace with a long, live mix of Minimal Techno and Tech House. I’m not intimately schooled in a lot of this music so I found this mix really fun and eye-opening. It’s often dark and spacey, but moves along gracefully and is a really solid listen to front to back. Check out Sal’s blog for more info or go see him play in NYC sometime. In the mean time, download this mix and let us know what you think!

By SULAIMAN ABDUR-RAHMAN

HAMILTON — Trenton lost a music legend over the weekend when hip-hop producer and DJ “Tony D†died in a one-car crash on Bunting Avenue near his township home.
Anthony “Tony D†DePula, 42, is credited with putting Trenton’s hip-hop scene on the map in 1990 by producing Poor Righteous Teachers’ “Rock Dis Funky Joint.†The music video to that classic single was filmed on the “Trenton Makes†bridge.

My friends at Discobelle recruited me to do a song for their recent compilation with Scion and they recently posted it. It’s a weird Euro-House-meets-Bmore song with my good friend Katie on the vocals. I put a loooooooooot of work into and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. Hope you guys enjoy it as well.
