DJs Bo Bliz and Dimaggio- dj partners and center back partners. They love Paul Gascoigne, Dancehall, Rap, Grime, and don’t mind a few pints with the mandem. Having spent the better part of the last two decades rocking parties in his home of Philadelphia, Bo Bliz is an accomplished DJ that has traveled the world showcasing his now classic Open Format DJ style that has become the worldwide standard. With several long-standing residencies at home in Philly, as well as a handful of vinyl-only releases and countless mixtapes under his belt, Bo Bliz has been in this game for years. Dimaggio is Bo Bliz’s upstart young bol who made his way to Philly after growing up a Red in Manchester. In short, Bo Bliz and Dimaggio are the rap-game Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic. They made this mix of classics for grime lovers and for people stateside just getting acquainted with the movement.

REEF THE @LOSTCAUZE IS DEAD FREE ALBUM

As many of you may know, we here at Crossfaded Bacon Headquarters are close friends with one of Philly’s finest rappers Reef the Lost Cauze. Dude has been in the game for years and we have contributed beats to several of his albums, making some truly memorable stuff. Reef recently released a free album on Christmas called “REEF THE LOST CAUZE IS DEAD” full of him rapping on flips of somewhat unexpected songs, many of which make for really fun and different material than he has made in the past. You can tell these beats really energized him and made him approach rapping a bit differently than he has done in most of his more popular stuff. We personally really like the album, but even if it’s not entirely your cup of tea, it’s worth a listen if just to appreciate an artist challenging himself to do something a bit different. You can stream the album above or download a free copy of this album on Reef the Lost Cauze’s Bandcamp page but he’ll also be giving some few free CD copies away tomorrow at our first Friday monthly THE BOUNCE (click here for flyer and facebook invite here). Because of the relentless onward, upward, and forward nature of the internet, I’ve decided to start the MONDAY MORNING RE-UP in order to re-post older stuff to draw some attention to notable items that may have slipped through the cracks (or had download links destroyed by the terrible cyber-wars of 2011/12). Instead of letting these gems lay around waiting to be discovered by random google searches for something else entirely, we proudly present to you the MONDAY MORNING RE-UP.

Originally posted on February 28, 2012, this is my mixtape with North Carolina’s Stranger Day. The tape is built around samples from some of our favorite 90s joints (everything from Pixies “Where’s My Mind,” Fugazi “Blueprint,” Ned’s Atomic Dustbin “Grey Cell Green,” Alice in Chains “Rooster,” and more) and has a real cruising-around-town-with-the-windows-down summer vibe to it. Mad Decent super producer Derek Allen provided two outstanding beats for the tape as well. Stream it above and download it below and feel free to hit up the comments section with thoughts. For some years, this is more challenging than others, but on the whole, the party has been and continues to be a fantastic success that attracts a wide variety of folks from all walks of life and ages. We’re extremely proud of this party and genuinely love doing it every couple months.

I actually make a point of preparing some new blends every month or so just to add some oomph to songs I may be sick of playing or just want to add a quick new twist to some new joints. For quite some time I’ve been meaning to put together a primarily Hip-Hop Club mix that represents the kind of stuff I wind up playing in the club on any given Friday or Saturday night. In many respects, playing Hip-Hop in the club can turn into club karoake, where people just want to sing along to songs they know the words to. I’m not mad at this at all because, on the rare occassion that I go out and get it in, this is basically my favorite thing to do too. But, from a DJs perspective, playing the same 25-40 records in primetime gets kind’ve old, so I tend to try and spice it up with some unexpected blends or random songs that people don’t necessarily know all the words to, but the shit still goes off. so when my homies in Burlington, Vermont asked me to do a mix for their upcoming party NIGHT VISION that I’m playing this Friday, that’s kind’ve what I wanted to make the mix represent: some predictable stuff, followed by some unpredictable blends, mashes, and remixes. All in all, just something that’s fun to listen to. So yeah, this is the type of stuff I expect to be playing this Friday in Burlington, Vermont at the NIGHT VISION party at Red Square.
