CFB COUNTDOWN TO FREE AT LAST: 13 DAYS

The adlibs at the beginning of this track are pretty hilarious, but Free sounds dope on them uptempo hyphy keyboards.

CFB COUNTDOWN TO FREE AT LAST: 15 DAYS

This song was floating around on a couple mixtapes about a year ago and is a rather obvious attempt to make a sequel to “Flipside.” It’s aesthetically really similar and lyrical references to the OG are made throughout the song, most notably the hook. As contrived as it sounds on paper, I still think this song works. I play it pretty often in my opening sets when DJing and while it doesn’t have the obvious recognition that “Flipside,” it still works alright in a club setting. But, really, hearing Free, Peedi, and Just Blaze together is always a good look.

CFB COUNTDOWN TO FREE AT LAST: 18 DAYS

ONLY 18 DAYS LEFT! GYEAH!

I’m not even sure if anyone cares about our little countdown here because people are scared to post comments, but we’re going to keep this thing moving forward because that’s what Freeway would want (WWFD?). In other words, leave a comment, I don’t care what it says.

Anyway, this is a dope remix of Kelis’s already dope song “Stick Up” from her underrated album “Tasty.” The song is produced by Dame Grease who’s claim to fame is producing the “Get at Me Dog” beat. I didn’t even know that until I peeped his discogs page. But, eff Kelis and eff Dame Grease because this is about Freeway. Peep.

CFB COUNTDOWN TO FREE AT LAST: 19 DAYS

Couple more Free-related joints. First, a pretty bad rip I made of the Miracles song that Kanye sampled for the State Property anthem that Bliz posted yesterday. I ripped it from my portable turntable. Sorry. It’s still an amazing song and Kanye did a great job with the samples. To this day, it’s probably my favorite Kanye beat. The Miracles song is really beautiful, too.

And, as a bonus beat, my man Nick Catchdubs from Fool’s Gold Records hit me off with this funky blend of “What We Do” that he did for the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. It’s fun and got a much different vibe than the original. Shit is really dope.

CFB COUNTDOWN TO FREE AT LAST: 21 DAYS

21 days left!

Below I’ve posted a great song with Free and Peedi off an old Peedi mixtape. Some old sample where dude is singing about weed and cocaine and both Free and Pedro kill it. Don’t complain about the 128 kbps. This jawn is rare and I’m shocked I even have it.

CFB COUNTDOWN TO FREE AT LAST: 22 DAYS

We here at Crossfaded Bacon love us some Leslie Pridgen. So much so, in fact that starting today, I’m going to be posting one Freeway-related song per day (BUSINESS DAYS ONLY… I’M BUSY HUNGOVER ON WEEKENDS) until this dude’s album drops. The song might be a Freeway song, a song featuring Freeway, the original sample of a song Freeway raps on, or something else entirely. I dunno. Whatever.

The point is, “FREE AT LAST” has finally been given a release date (NOVEMBER 20th) and I pray to god it doesn’t get pushed back indefinitely. If it does, rest assured, I will be making “FREE FREEWAY” shirts ASAP.

Anyway, here’s Day 1’s contribution. A track from the album called “It’s Over” and it’s a banger.

Big Brother Issue #1

Somebody was nice enough to scan the entire issue of Big Brother #1 and post it as a PDF for our viewing pleasure on this here internets. You can download it or view it HERE.

For those that don’t know about Big Brother, here’s the basic story from the Big Brother entry on wikipedia:

Big Brother was a skateboarding magazine founded by Steve Rocco, which was notable for ushering in street skating and promoting Rocco brands and companies Rocco favored. No subject was taboo. Early articles featured step by step ways to commit suicide and rip off schemes such as how to make a fake ID. They would often use odd gimmicks like printing the magazine in different sizes, packaging it in a cereal box, and throwing in items like trading cards and a cassette tape. Early writers were Sean Cliver, Earl Parker (Thomas Schmidt) Jeff Tremaine, Marc Mckee, Mike Ballard, Pat Canale, and others. They also released a few videos with a few Jackass-esque stunts and pranks, but the videos were mostly skateboarding-oriented.

It contained mostly articles about skateboarding, as well as nudity, stunts, and random ramblings from its staff. Its later days were characterized by the clever wordplay of editors Dave Carnie and Chris Nieratko. The magazine was purchased by Larry Flynt in 1997. After Flynt began publishing the magazine, ironically the nudity was toned down or scrapped altogether, though the vulgarity remained.

In one of the most bizarre episodes of the magazine’s history, the subscriber list for Big Brother got mixed up with one of Larry Flynt’s hardcore magazines – Taboo. Subscribers were sent pornography, and those who subscribed to Taboo got a skate magazine. This incident was parodied on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in which one of the band members was delivered an issue of Big Brother live on stage, suggesting that he subscribed to Taboo and received it in error.

The magazine was unexpectedly dropped by Larry Flynt publications in February 2004.

Additionally, more Steve Rocco related news, the movie “The Man Who Souled the World” is a documentary about Steve Rocco featuring interviews with Steve Rocco himself and a whole bunch of skaters from the era, from Danny Way to Ryan Sheckler. The Hundreds website has a brief little piece that expresses pretty much the same feelings I have towards Rocco, namely these lines:

He made our modern day skate heroes, and then he made them his enemies. But love him or hate him, I have a great deal of respect for the empire he built and the rules that he broke.

Anyway, peep the trailer HERE.

Jordan Vs vs Air Force 1s

Man, I’m sure the purist Jordan dorks over at Nike Talk are all up in arms about this hybrid of the immaculate Jordan Vs and the classic Air Force 1s, but I’m really feeling the look of these jernts.

White Ts Halloween Edition: Friday, Nov 2nd

10182007: Emynd’s “Put You To Bed Club Theme”

Picture from Taryn Simon’s “The Innocents”(more info)

J. Holiday “Bed” (Emynd’s “Put You To Bed Club Theme”): DOWNLOAD

This is one of my more recent productions, a Club remix of J. Holiday’s R&B smash “Bed.” The OG is currently pretty huge but I think this remix gives it some use in a club setting that the song previously didn’t have. I know Benja Styles did an excellent up-tempo remix of this song as well, but mine is a little clubbier with the “Think” break, dick beat chops, and Samir-ish horns that I’m becoming famous for biting. Also, big shout outs to DJ Technics who is a big influence for these R&B club updates.

White Ts in the “City Paper” Music Issue

Huge thanks to the fabulous Kelly White at the City Paper and Philebrity for being one of the few journalists that has accurately and fairly captured what White Ts is all about in this week’s issue of the City Paper. You can read the article in its entirety here. I’m pissed we didn’t get the cover shot. If that picture isn’t a cover shot, I don’t know what is (CERTAINLY NOT THIS!! WTF?!). Oh well. Next time.

Anyway, funny story about that picture. That first railing that Bo and I are posing on is only like 8 or 9 feet off the ground but I was scared OUT OF MY MIND trying to climb onto that thing. It of course didn’t help that SUPER HUMAN MAN Dan the Swede was climbing up and down that jawn like he was Spiderman on speed. That didn’t make me feel any better about myself. It took me literally like 15 or 20 minutes of convincing and rallying and pep-talking to finally put myself out there on that stupid rail. After I hopped down onto the ground and looked up at the stupid thing, I quickly realized how big of a wuss I truly am. Pathetic.

But, it made for a really hot picture even though my jeans look young as hell and my scrunched up mean-mug face gives credence to the widely held belief in my neighborhood that I look like Jim Jones. People actually call me “Jim” in my neighborhood (and I must shout out Diplo for being the first person to notice my unfortunate likeness to this ugly man). Hilarious.

Big shout out to my visvims that made their first appearance in print. I was telling Bo before the shoot, “I’m getting these shoes in this picture some how or other.” I did. And thank god I was wearing black socks.

Anyway, pick up a City Paper and hang us on your walls you bastards.
