It’s no secret that we here at Crossfaded Bacon love us some Peedi Crakk and it’s not just because he graced us with his presence a few months back at White Ts. This recently uncovered video for his classic “Fall Back” hints at why we love the bol so much and are on the verge of starting a letter writing campaign to Def Jam to either put the man’s album out, or let him go put it out independently… and while we’re at it, Def Jam needs to free Free as well!

Taking a page from my out-of-key but totally effective “Presidential” Crunk/Dancehall blend, I recently created this totally out-of-key but effective concoction. It’s just the melodramatic ass “Mr. Jones” instrumental with the Sean Paul and Mr. Vegas’s classic “Hot Gyal Today” from the Street Sweeper riddim. I don’t have the acapella, so I just threw the song on top, filtered out some bass and called it a day. But, it knocks as far as I’m concerned. Frankly, I can’t decide if it works despite it’s out-of-key cacophony or precsiely BECAUSE of that cacophony. There’s just something about it that’s really hard, and it might be the fact that these guys are totally not singing to this beat. Whatever, the case, if used at the appropriate time, this ish is guaranteed to bring your crowd to a frenzy. If your audience is at all familiar with carribean anthems, rock it out in your crunk sets and I’m pretty sure somebody will get punched (in a good way).

First of all, sorry for the lack of posts. Rest assured that Bo and I are hard at work on our second EP for Flamin Hotz Records and we’re also in the midst of booking some BIG stuff for the next coming months. We will also be posting a lot of music that didn’t make the cut for the record but will definitely still be really useful. Please keep checking back.
But, I just discovered Mr. Vladamir Kato because our friends in Toronto commisioned him to do the drawing above of the Philly Phanatic on the flier for our show in Toronto (see sidebar for gig schedule). Needless to say, the flier is awesome and so is the rest of Vlad’s work. His stlye is really playful but still precise and calculated. I’m a big fan of illustrations that do more than just accurately capture how something looks, but have a bit of unmistakable pizzazz. That being said, you can tell that Vlad’s style is pretty influenced by graffiti. It’s got a lot of bold lines and thick outlines as well as a strong use of color. I’m pretty sure the description of his stuff above does it no justice at all and even sounds a bit cliche, so I’m going to stop playing fake art critic and post some of his stuff below.
Check out his page if you’re interested.

From the Horse’s mouth:
Here’s my plan.
-Purchase regular steak sandwich w/onions and peppers, hold the cheese
-Go to China Wok
-Cook up a wok full of gen tso’s chicken (our recipe is basically hot braised chicken with broc.)
-Get 3 or 4 raw crab rangoons, remove the cheese and spread on the inside of the top half of the bun
-Place cooked gen tso’s chicken on top of the beef, peppers and onion and add the other half of the bun
-Wait about 15 minutes to debate why I am doing this
-Eat sandwich
-Collect money won from bet placed with Vietnamese owner and chef
-Brag about it here
Disgusting or delicious? Probably both. But, whatever the case, Trapper Juan needs to get this in the City Paper ASAP.

As per the lovely little Gig List on your right, Emynd & Bo Bliz will be killing Philly for the best monthly party in the history of Philadelphia on September 7 at the next installment of WHITE Ts & WHITE BELTS.

And we will be in Toronto the next night, Saturday the 8th, to wyle out at the F*CK FACES party in Toronto. Come party with us.

Despite having one of these creepy Press Releases that makes it seem like these Subaru suits desperarety (want to) have SOMETHING IN COMMON WITH THE COMMON, HIP MAN (i.e. “The FADER And Subaru Announce Mixtape Featuring Some Of The Most Compelling Minds Of The Counter Culture“) this mix is quite good. (Seriously though, who uses the phrase “The Counter Culture” anymore? This isn’t VIETNAM ERA AMERICA Despite an eerily similar political and international relations climate!) As the Press Release goes on to so eloquently state, “the mix combines everything from fringe dancehall beats on tracks like Mavado’s “Mr. Informer†to DJ Eli’s psychedelic beat-driven remix of The Pack’s “Vans.†Tabi Bonney’s opening track, “The Pocket,†sets the tone for the mix with simmering energy ready to kick the RPMs into the red. Other highlights include exclusive remixes of Editors’ “Camera†and Bonde Do Role’s baile funk “Gasolinaâ€.” Man, who writes this stuff?
Anyway, it’s a dope mix that Nick had complete creative control over and Crossfadedbacon.com has one availabe for FREE!
Just be the first person to email info@crossfadedbacon.com with a subject line that makes it obvious that you want this CD, and I got you! In the mean time, check out the Fader blog because it’s pretty darn awesome.
Yay!

Man, I can’t believe I just found this jawn now. Peedi Crakk at the most epic of epic “White Ts” at the Ukie on May 4th. This lil’ youtube doesn’t do the performance justice, but if you were there, it’s good for some reminiscing. Here’s the pics as well.

I’ve talked my fair share of ish about Saigon before. In fairness to me, it’s had very little to do with his music and has been more in retaliation to some of the ridiculous stuff he’s said over the past few years and months in interviews (most of which I can’t remember). Anyway, since I can’t even remember what I said about him or why I disagreed with what he said, I’m not going to bother saying anything more except that I like this song.

– FRIDAY in NYC: First things first, assuming my messed up back heals, I’ll be DJing with Bo on Friday in NYC for my homie’s 27th Birthday. Come through if you’re in Brooklyn. Details here.
– Stevie Wonder US Tour: The dudest of dudes Stevie Wonder is going on a US Tour starting August 23. I need to get me some tickets!
– Blood Clots on Flights: Did you know that one out of 4500 people will get blood clots from flying on a long flight in a cramped up space? That’s kinda crazy. I really enjoy flying, but it’s kind’ve ridiculous how little leg room there is. I’m only 6 foot 2 and it’s ridiculously cramped. It must be torture for anyone taller than that (DAN THE SWEDE). Anyway, here’s some tips on how to avoid it.
– Kanye’s New Album Cover: While I think it’s dope that Kanye commissioned a “high art” artist to do his new album cover, there’s no denying that the cover isn’t the best looking thing I’ve ever seen.
– Michel Gondry: New Michel Gondry flick featuring everyone’s favorite baby daddy (no, not Shawn Kemp).
– Vick Chew Toy: This Michael Vick Chew Toy for your doggy is pretty funny except it looks NOTHING like Michael Vick.

– WHITE Ts: White Ts tonight baby! It’s going to be off the heezums as always. $10 BYOB AND free PBR, Sparks, and Vodka all night. 12 AM – 4 AM. Come through early, late, or whatever. Just come and party with me for my birthday. Gyeah!
– Whoa: These Huaraches are off the hook. I keep telling myself I’m done with sneakers, but there’s ALWAYS MORE THAT I WANT. The Mita Trainers that just came into WTHN are crazy.
– Ozomatli In Egypt?: I know Ozomatli is one of the more cringe-inducing rap-related non-rap collobarations of the past decade (i.e. PSUEDO RAP FOR WHITE PEOPLE), but I still find it interesting that the State Department has brought them out to the Middle East to do some shows. The band “was born at a labor rights demonstration 12 years ago, it regularly play[s] at antiwar rallies and that its members [are] outspoken critics of the Bush administration’s policies on everything from the war on terror to immigration” and yet here they were. I dunno what it means really, but I do find it interesting.
– Unemployed Lloyd: Unemployed Lloyd’s blog is pretty hilarious.
– COLD BEER: This is the best job ever.
– Lightning Strikes Twice: Dudes been hit TWICE with lightning and he’s still alive.

– Bailey “You See It”: DOWNLOAD
I don’t know if you’ve hard it, but the Bailey album from last summer is freaking awesome. Actually, it’s not that great, but I’ve got a severe soft spot for it and I’m not exactly sure why. Anyway, “U C It” (video here) is a song I play out pretty frequently (I’ve tagged it wrong above… I forgot to spell it in Hyphyese) because them stomping strings and drums are just so damn hard. I thought some reggae chanting on top would sound good, so I looped up the beat, edited it a little bit, threw Vybz Kartel and Wayne Marshall’s (no not THAT Wayne Marshall) “New Millenium” on top, and then sequenced the beat around it (I also tagged this one imprecisely, but you get the picture). I think it sounds really good.

1. Antena’s “To Climb the Cliff” (Emynd Edit): DOWNLOAD
This is an edit I originally did several years ago for my “Happy Festivus Mix” in December of 2004 (HOLY CRAP! It’s way older than I thought!). I just threw a busy Charles Kynard break on top of this Antena song, sequenced it and re-programmed the drums a bit. Even though the original is quite beautiful as it is, I think the drums add some much needed energy to the track. For those that don’t know anything about Antena, they are a rather unique “bossa-nova flavored electronic dream pop group.” They’re like a 80s/90s French version of Os Mutantes. I’ve only got their “Camino Del Sol” re-issue CD, but their stuff is highly recommended. COP THAT.
2. Modest Mouse & Young Gunz “Friday Night (Emynd’s Float On Remix)”: DOWNLOAD
This is another blend/remix that first appeared on my “Happy Festivus Mix” but it was recently released on Dedicated Beat Heads Records out of Germany. Scoop it somewhere!
3. Cheap Trick “I Want You To Want Me” w/mixable intro: DOWNLOAD
This is precisely what it says above. Cheap Trick’s live version of “I Want You to Want Me” with a slightly extended intro for easy mixing.
