Our friend and sometimes mentor Roctakon put together this really fun mix of classic House records for Opening Ceremony, who asked him to put something together to celebrate Party Girl Parker Posey’s bday. Here’s Roc’s description of the mix:

When I was a kid, Party Girl was one of my favorite movies. If you were 16 in 1995, an aspiring DJ, and not-so-closet total dork, Mary would have been everything to you too. I picked songs I know she would have danced to, songs that I really did dance to, and songs that for me define that era. This mix is a tribute to her and to my late teens, where I spent a lot more time as patron than DJ, a lot more time dancing to house music, and a lot more time romanticizing Parker Posey.

The other day, I was on a quick road trip listening to Extra Prolific’s now classic “Like It Should Be” and it dawned on me that I needed to put together a collection of my favorite Hiero songs. And… so I did. 27 of my favorite Hiero joints, all of which come before the year 2000. This isn’t because Hiero stopped putting out good music after 2000. Frankly, I have no idea if they did or didn’t because I haven’t been paying attention… but these joints all bang and this mix is a fun trip down memory lane with a lot of great rap that has aged extremely well. I’d like to think this is a good introduction to the Hieroglyphics crew for those who aren’t familiar with their work, but also a fun listen to those of us who grew up listening to them. Anyway, I hope y’all enjoy it!

Stream it above or download it below and don’t forget you can stream the rest of the 1st & 15th mixes here (or download them all individually here). As always, thanks so much for listening!

And we don’t stoooooooooooop! Booyakashah! The 1st & 15th Mixcast is back again for August!

In preparation for Emynd’s most recent It’s The Year 1990 party with Bo Bliz, Emynd found himself coming up on quite a batch of quality reggae and dancehall tunes from the early 90s that found their way on to this superbly summery mix of classics, randoms, and rarities, most of which came from around 1990. This is likely the first volume in what will hopefully be a long-running series of mixes exploring early dancehall and reggae tunes. Bump it at your late summer BBQ, or listen to at work while organizing crap in Excel. Whatever you do, we hope y’all enjoy it!

Don’t forget you can stream the rest of the 1st & 15th mixes here (or download them all individually here). Thanks so much for listening!

Emynd – Sail Away Theme by Emynd

I’m heavy back on my Bmore grind! This time I gave Enya’s classic “Orinoco Flow” the treatment. I know this song is pretty cheesy, but there’s something strangely affecting about it. I find it to be way more emotional then I should probably admit. Hope y’all enjoy it either way.

Bad Romance (Emynd Holding You Down Blend) by Emynd

Huge guilty pleasure of mine. If you hate on this, you have no soul because it’s perfectly in key (except for the “Ohhh ohhhh ohhhhh” part) and always gets hands in the air at your stupid top 40 gig. I made it months ago when both these songs were way bigger but have always been too self conscious to post it on the intertron. Oh well. Enjoy.

Sure Thing (Emynd True School Remix) by Emynd

Miguel’s “Sure Thing” on top of some classic True School production: Fugee’s “Ready or Not,” Lost Boyz “Renee,” and Mobb Deep’s “Hell On Earth.”

DJ Anonymous: New Jack Swing #1 (2007) by DJ Anonymous

I know it’s still raining in Philly, but eff it… it’s almost June! And nothing says summertime to me like some throwback New Jack Swing. DJ Anonymous from Helsinki’s Top Billin crew put together this mix several years ago, but it’s still great. BANG IT!

Emynd – Oye Como Va Theme by Emynd

If you haven’t noticed, there’s been a bit of a Latin Dance music explosion what with Dave Nada’s Moombahton mayhem taking over the world. That partially inspired me to search out some useful Latin classics to update and I’ve always thought Tito Puente’s “Oye Como Va” would sound great as a beefed up Baltimore remix… so here it go! Hope y’all enjoy!
