Random Rap Music I Like

I’m like 8 months behind on all things rap related, which keeps me right at pace with the rest of the world but waaaay behind blogger nerds. Whatever. These moderately old songs are keeping me sane at work right now and thought it worth putting y’all on to them.

DJ Class ft Kanye West “I’m the Sh*t” Remix Download

What’s left to say about this song now that Kanye has hopped onto it. Bmore finally has a crossover hit (the first since “Doo Doo Brown”?)! Love it.

Pitbull “Calle Ocho” (75 Brazil Street) Download

Pitbull rapping on top of the Big Room House cut “75 Brazil Street” by Nicola Fasano & Pat Rich. I’m a sucker for this ish, not just because it’s modern Hip-House but because Pitbull actually does it well. There’s not a lot of rappers out there that sound comfortable doing this type of ish, but Pitbull has the amazing ability to hop on whatever–no matter what tempo–and just kill it. Obviously, it’s also a really useful club joint for us dork club DJs.

Playboy Tre “Eagles Fly” Download

Not club related at all, Playboy Tre from the Ham Squad is one of my favorite rappers right now and his “Goodbye America” mixtape is solid from front to back. Really dope production and Tre just kicking some everyman type of ish alongside his Ham Squad bredren with appearances from B.O.B., Bo Hagon, Homebwoi and some more. The mixtape is highly recommended and this song “Eagles Fly” is one of the more enjoyable and heartfelt songs on the tape.

Remi ft Gucci Mane “Bubble Up” Download

Beat is hard as hell here and both Remi and Gucci go in. Heard this on some random, bootleg ass Gucci Mane mixtape but here’s CDQ with no DJ for y’all.

Gucci Mane “Runnin Back” Download

Gucci’s just clowning on this jawn but it’s a dope change of pace to hear him on a 94 bpm breakbeat burner. Gucci has clearly grown a lot over the past 5 or 6 years becoming one of the most interesting and versatile rappers you’re likely to hear these days. Dude is really exciting right now.

Ciara ft Justin Timberlake “Love Sex Magic” x Le Knight Club “Holiday On Ice” (Emynd Blend)

LUNCH BREAK BEATS #15:

Ciara ft Justin Timberlake “Love Sex Magic” x Le Knight Club “Holiday On Ice” (Emynd Blend)

Emynd’s Lunch Break Beats is a series of club-friendly blends, edits, or beats Emynd produced on his laptop (usually while sitting in his car on some random side street in Wilmington, D-ware just after eating his WaWa lunch) while on his lunch break at his 9 to 5.

The whole series can be found here.

A fun blend of Ciara and Justin’s soon-to-be smash “Love Sex Magic” with Guy-Manuel De Homem-Christo and Eric Chedeville (aka Le Knight Club)‘s early Crydamoure French House jam “Holiday On Ice.” I’ve been listening to this jawn all morning. Definitely gives the Ciara and Justin song a really different feel. As always, thoughts and comments are appreciated!

Vital “Herbalist” (Produced by Federation Sound)

I know I posted my remix with the Federation boys from the Bay the other day, but The OTHER Federation (i.e. FEDERATION SOUND the Reggae/Dancehall boys) with a smash with their new artist Vital. This song is in the same vein as Jr. Gong’s epic “Welcome to Jamrock,” and this jawn is just as hard. Was just rapping to Kenny Meez about how much we love this style of production: hard-ass one-drop-sampling ish with that heavy bassline. So dope.

Tittsworth ft Federation “Drunk As Fuck (Emynd Remix)”

Here’s a little Digi 12″ of my remix of Tittsworth‘s excellent song “Drunk As Fuck” with Hyphy superstars Federation. Titts’ idea to get Federation to spit on top of some club was really perfect, and his original song is easily my favorite song on his album 12 Steps. I believe Plant Music is releasing a “Drunk As Fuck” EP quite soon with remixes from the Top Billin boys and a really great remix by Say Wut amongst others. Look out for it! Hope you enjoy my remix as well!

DJ Technics Interviews Himself

Just stumbled across this DJ Technics autobiographical-interview that used to be hosted on Baltimoreclubtracks.com but I believe that site is down so I’m copy/pasting it here so it doesn’t get lost in the ether (i.e. internet).

DJ Technics Q & A (a self interview)

I have done tons of interviews with various mags and press, and i have only seen one honestly good article on the Baltimore Club scene.

It’s bad when i’m getting asked more questions about Chopped n Screwed music than our own scene.I have read all of these articles on our scene and its music and it’s always some guy who has more opinions about why the tracks are so ghetto or why we APPEAR to lack creativity when making tracks. So in the wake of all this madness….i will do us a big favor and i will ask myself the questions that you should know cause these cats didnt get good grades in english classes obviously.

NOTICE THIS !!!!

I am not doing anymore interviews so please do not email me and ask me any questions about doing a story for any reason. I am sorry but i’m a bit discouraged about the whole thing so this is how its gonna be until someone improves their presentation.

Baltimore Club “What It is” by Glenn Brand aka Technics

Glenn: Q – WHAT WAS YOUR ROLE IN THE INTRODUCTION OF THE MUSIC TO THE PEOPLE ??

Technics: A – IN 1991 A FRIEND AND I WERE IN MY HOUSE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET PEOPLE TO LISTEN TO A NEW STYLE OF HIP HOUSE MUSIC. SO WE CREATED A TRACK WHERE THE BEAT WASNT QUITE A 4/4 BEAT BUT A 4/4 WITH A SLIGHT TRIBAL SHUFFLE .

Glenn: Q – WHAT TRACK WAS THAT AND WAS EVER RECORDED ON RECORD ??

Technics:A – YES IN 1991 THAT RECORD WAS THE ” ITS YOUR BIRTHDAY EP ” FEATURING ” TAPP” (R.I.P). TAPP WAS A GUY THAT LOCALLY SANG AND CREATED GHETTO ANTHEMS IN THE 90’S HERE IN BALTIMORE .THE TRACK ON THE RECORD THAT HE WAS FEATURED ON WAS ” SHAKE THAT ASS ” WHICH LATER WENT ON TO BE BOOTLEGGED IN NYC BY THE GREAT DJ MR CEE IN NYC. MY TRACK WAS “DICKONTROL” ON THAT SAME RECORD.THE TRACK WAS CREATED BY ME AND MY FRIEND TIM (DAPHATDADEE). THE LOOP IN THAT TRACK WAS ME JUGGLING “THE BRIDGE” BY MC SHAN.

Pryda vs Miles Dyson vs Ralphi Rosario (Emynd Blend)

LUNCH BREAK BEATS #14:

Pryda “Animal” vs Miles Dyson “Intro” vs
Ralphi Rosario “You Used to Hold Me” (Emynd Blend)

Emynd’s Lunch Break Beats is a series of club-friendly blends, edits, or beats Emynd produced on his laptop (usually while sitting in his car on some random side street in Wilmington, D-ware just after eating his WaWa lunch) while on his lunch break at his 9 to 5.

More House stuff for that ass. I love the bassline on Miles Dyson’s “Intro” but hated the stupid 20th Century Fox crap at the begging so I blended it with Pryda’s “Animal” and added Ralphi Rosario’s vox briefly. It sounds like mayhem on paper, but as usual, it’s actually pretty tasteful in practice. Play it or comment about it or something.

Bangers & Hammers Volume 2

This past weekend, big homie Steve Milladelphia moved his fine skateshop EXIT to 2nd Street and to help him celebrate his movin’ on up, I put together the second volume of the extremely popular “Bangers & Hammers” mixtape. The concept for “Bangers & Hammers” is simple: make a mixtape of great songs from some of our favorite skate videos. This time, Steve helped me select the songs and I put them together and pressed em to CD to hand out at his grand opening. I believe the CDs will be for sale for extremely cheap over at Exit soon (for like $2 or $3) if you’re interested, but you can also download the full mix for your ipod below. DJ nerds beware, this is by no means a DJ-focused mix–there’s not a whole lot of actual “mixing” (though there is some), and is mostly just a collection of dope songs.

Hope y’all enjoy it!

BEST OF BLEEK

DOWNLOAD (128 kps)

Look, I know Memphis Bleek is not the best rapper in the world. When I told Noz that I was doing a Memphis Bleek best of, he was flabbergasted and exclaimed that “Bleek is empirically bad… like only slightly better than that random girl on Outkast’s ‘Mamacita.'” Ouch. Whatever though. While I recognize that Bleek is not always the best rapper in the world, dude has made a whole bunch of songs that I like. I mean, damn, dude has like 5 albums. WTF! Somehow I dug up 30 jams of his that I like and put them together and I’ll be damned if this mix isn’t awesome. It’s got some classic joints that I still play in the club to this day (like “Is That Your Chick” and “It’s Alright”), some rarities (like the absolutely incredible “Yes”), and even random stuff like Eli Escobar’s amazing remix of “4 Da Fam.” By the way, it was a funny thing to cut Jay-Z verses off of bleek songs for this mix on some “Wait, I’m doing this backwards.” Hah. So yeah, honestly, I don’t really expect any of you to love this mix as much as me, but I hope you do!

Comments and thoughts are welcome as always, but don’t bother linking me to Bleek’s horrible Garnier Fructis ad. I’ve already tried to suffer through it for the LOLZ and couldn’t even get a minute into it.
