Put It On (Bo Bliz Remix)

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I was playing around with some old records after making some party beats last night. Some snares sound especially crisp when you are cutting them, and fortunately this one has about four bars of some rugged ass bassline after it. I hooked this beat up real quick and decided to keep some cutting in the loop to be extra gully. I threw Big L on there and called it a wrizzap(turkey and cheese bitch).

Enjoy the rest of y’all summer, see everybody next First Friday in September. Until then imma enjoy a couple weeks off dj’in, watch the phils’ playoffs hope crumble(DAMN COLE!!!!), and get ready for football. Be safe folks.

Oh yeah, I finally listened to this Turf Talk album that everyone has been hyping so hard and I thought it was mediocre as fuck. The throwaway beats, the constant throwback interpolation hooks, the weak guests, and the whatever rapping didn’t do shit for me. Please feel free to explain to me why this album does not suck balls.

DO ME A FAVOR AND PLAY THIS ON SPEAKERS THAT HAVE BASS!!!!

Fader vs Subaru vs Catchdubs = A “COUNTER CULTURE” MIX

Despite having one of these creepy Press Releases that makes it seem like these Subaru suits desperarety (want to) have SOMETHING IN COMMON WITH THE COMMON, HIP MAN (i.e. “The FADER And Subaru Announce Mixtape Featuring Some Of The Most Compelling Minds Of The Counter Culture“) this mix is quite good. (Seriously though, who uses the phrase “The Counter Culture” anymore? This isn’t VIETNAM ERA AMERICA Despite an eerily similar political and international relations climate!) As the Press Release goes on to so eloquently state, “the mix combines everything from fringe dancehall beats on tracks like Mavado’s “Mr. Informer” to DJ Eli’s psychedelic beat-driven remix of The Pack’s “Vans.” Tabi Bonney’s opening track, “The Pocket,” sets the tone for the mix with simmering energy ready to kick the RPMs into the red. Other highlights include exclusive remixes of Editors’ “Camera” and Bonde Do Role’s baile funk “Gasolina”.” Man, who writes this stuff?

Anyway, it’s a dope mix that Nick had complete creative control over and Crossfadedbacon.com has one availabe for FREE!

Just be the first person to email info@crossfadedbacon.com with a subject line that makes it obvious that you want this CD, and I got you! In the mean time, check out the Fader blog because it’s pretty darn awesome.

Yay!

Peedi Crakk at “White Ts” Video

Man, I can’t believe I just found this jawn now. Peedi Crakk at the most epic of epic “White Ts” at the Ukie on May 4th. This lil’ youtube doesn’t do the performance justice, but if you were there, it’s good for some reminiscing. Here’s the pics as well.

Saigon & Just Blaze “C’Mon Baby”

I’ve talked my fair share of ish about Saigon before. In fairness to me, it’s had very little to do with his music and has been more in retaliation to some of the ridiculous stuff he’s said over the past few years and months in interviews (most of which I can’t remember). Anyway, since I can’t even remember what I said about him or why I disagreed with what he said, I’m not going to bother saying anything more except that I like this song.

Happy Birthday Jess!!!!!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Emil and I will be in Brooklyn tonight at The Royale in Park Slope. We are djing and celebrating Jess'(Jubilee) birthday. It’s free and you can find that bitch if you have half a clue and the internet, so come(10-???).

I made a mix of Biggie’s “Big Poppa” acapella over the “Buy U A Drank” beat w/ the hook. “Buy U a Drank” is old as shit but I went ahead and hooked this up for a few reasons.

1. Jess is from Florida(so is T-Pain).
2. Jess lives in Brooklyn(obvious).
3. This summer has been dry as shit for hip-hop bangers so I don’t feel bad playing this through September.
4. It sounds hot as shit and you know damn well I’m playing a Biggie set tomorrow.

Who rock grooves and make moves with all the mamis?

08012007: Bailey, Vybz Kartel, & Wayne Marshall

Bailey “You See It” w/ Vybz Kartel & Wayne Marshall “New Millenium” (Emynd Blend): DOWNLOAD
Bailey “You See It”: DOWNLOAD

I don’t know if you’ve hard it, but the Bailey album from last summer is freaking awesome. Actually, it’s not that great, but I’ve got a severe soft spot for it and I’m not exactly sure why. Anyway, “U C It” (video here) is a song I play out pretty frequently (I’ve tagged it wrong above… I forgot to spell it in Hyphyese) because them stomping strings and drums are just so damn hard. I thought some reggae chanting on top would sound good, so I looped up the beat, edited it a little bit, threw Vybz Kartel and Wayne Marshall’s (no not THAT Wayne Marshall) “New Millenium” on top, and then sequenced the beat around it (I also tagged this one imprecisely, but you get the picture). I think it sounds really good.

Club Soul

This is some heat to spice up your “playable soul” set. It’s good to have some banging old shit that isn’t disco- so here it is. Very mixable for you chocha type dj’s.

The Jackson Sisters “I Believe In Miracles”

CATCH THIS HEAT!!!

Shout out to my english dj friends that put me on this. Apparently its like a staple over there cause they all play it. holler.

07312007: Antena, Modest Mouse/Young Gunnaz, & Cheap Trick

1. Antena’s “To Climb the Cliff” (Emynd Edit): DOWNLOAD

This is an edit I originally did several years ago for my “Happy Festivus Mix” in December of 2004 (HOLY CRAP! It’s way older than I thought!). I just threw a busy Charles Kynard break on top of this Antena song, sequenced it and re-programmed the drums a bit. Even though the original is quite beautiful as it is, I think the drums add some much needed energy to the track. For those that don’t know anything about Antena, they are a rather unique “bossa-nova flavored electronic dream pop group.” They’re like a 80s/90s French version of Os Mutantes. I’ve only got their “Camino Del Sol” re-issue CD, but their stuff is highly recommended. COP THAT.

2. Modest Mouse & Young Gunz “Friday Night (Emynd’s Float On Remix)”: DOWNLOAD

This is another blend/remix that first appeared on my “Happy Festivus Mix” but it was recently released on Dedicated Beat Heads Records out of Germany. Scoop it somewhere!

3. Cheap Trick “I Want You To Want Me” w/mixable intro: DOWNLOAD

This is precisely what it says above. Cheap Trick’s live version of “I Want You to Want Me” with a slightly extended intro for easy mixing.

07302007: Emynd’s “Trigger Man Club Theme”

Emynd’s “Trigger Man Club Theme”: DOWNLOAD

As is pretty much common knowledge by now, The Show Boys “Drag Rap (Trigger Man)” is one of the most important records to ever hit the South. While made by a couple of Run DMC’s peers in Hollis Queens, the song went on to be a huge hit in clubs in New Orleans, Texas, Memphis, and all across the South. The recognizable melody has been sampled what must be thousands of times for counltess numbers of NOLA Bounce classics and the unmistakable “WHO!” and “Alright!” samples still show up frequently in rap records from NOLA, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Houston. The “Drag Rap” record was never really that important up north and I honestly have no idea if it was any big in Baltimore (though I suspect not. In a recent phone conversation from the inimitable noz who currently resides in DC (and who will surely despise the remix posted above), DJ Jimi declared that “Nobody in DC likes ‘Trigger Man!'”). That being said, I always thought this track would sound great as a Bmore inspired club track so I went ahead and made one (for those familiar with my stuff, I used the triggerman loop on “I See Some Thick Jawns” from my White Ts and White Belts EP on Flaminhotz). While I don’t think it’s a tear-the-club-down smash club track, I do think it sounds quite good in the club and is a useful party track nonetheless.

07272007: Two Awesome (but Relatively Useless) Blends

Project Pat “Back Clap” Instrumental w/ Jackson 5 “Rockin’ Robin” (Emynd Blend): DOWNLOAD

Honestly, this is a pretty useless blend in the grand scheme of blendom. Despite the song’s obvious awesomeness, you can’t find many people that still play “Back Clap” (if they ever did) and throwing the Jackson 5 acapella on top of this song doesn’t push it over into the odorous realm of MUST PLAY AT ALL HIPSTER PARTIES KITSCH that so many people love right now. But, honestly, that’s perfectly fine with me. This blend just works as far as I’m concerned. The singing is in key with the beat (without ANY timestretching of the vocals), and the melancholy bounce of the beat adds a much different feel to the original J5 treatment. I’m really happy with this stupid little thing and it’s definitely good warm up material and, at a relatively cool 85 bpms, it’ll add some much needed spice to your predictable warm-up sets.

Sufjan Stevens “They Are Night Zombies!” vs J-Kwon “Hood Hop” (Emynd Blend): DOWNLOAD

Another pretty pointless blend that works. Nobody really wants to hear “They Are Night Zombies!” in the club (really ANY Sufjan Stevens), so adding some of the HARDEST DRUMS IN CLUB HISTORY to the song doesn’t really do much except make this song sound totally freaking awesome in my wack ass car (of which, I just blew one of the remaining 2 speakers… that’s right, I’m down to one speaker). But, again, while I don’t expect to hear this in any clubs, I’m really happy with how this turned out. I made it over a year ago now and have probably played it less than 5 times in the presence of other people. The one time I did play it at a party, some indy rock dude was fawning all over me (nh). Anyway, I love this blend, so download it.

07202007: Ja Rule featuring Lil Wayne “Uh Oh”

Ja Rule featuring Lil Wayne “Uh Oh”: DOWNLOAD

Yeah, I can’t believe it either, but this song is fucking HOT. And it’s not in spite of Ja Rule. DUDE ACTUALLY KILLS IT! The stuttery verse ish? It sounds awesome. Of course Wayne is killing on it as well, but Ja Rule really came with it and I will most certainly be playing this ish tonight. The hilarious picture above (nice hair!) is the only picture I could find of Ja Rule wearing a piece of clothing that most closely resembles what you and I would call “a shirt.” Trust me. Google image searching “Ja Rule” is NSFW.

07182007: Controller 7 “Young Folks” vs “Get Ready”

Controller 7’s “Get Read for the Young Folks”: DOWNLOAD

If this were 2003, Controller 7‘s charming blend of the “Young Folks” instrumental with the Temptation’s “Get Ready” acapella would be called a “mash-up.” But, the novelty implied by the word “mash-up” doesn’t do this track justice. It’s a totally useful and tasteful blend of two awesome songs and gives “Young Folks” some legs to play out again if you’re not entirely sick of playing it yet. All in all, this blend sounds as all blends should: effortless, in key, and if you’d never heard either song before, you might not even notice that it’s two songs put together. Kudos, Tommy!

Buy his record of blends as well straight from his website so he gets the money! Otherwise, buy it from Turntable Lab with your next order.

07172007: Newish New Ish

1. Mr Vegas “Under Mi Sensi” (Emynd’s “Presidential” Blend): DOWNLOAD

Play this shit at your party. Yes, I do realize it’s technically quite out of key, but it still works really well in the clubs. Trust. Every time I drop it, I got a roar of approval from the crowd and it’s certainly not because anybody is really all that up on the original “Presidential.” The beat just drops hard and the vocals work quite well. Knock it.

2. Freck Billionaire “Peter Pan”: DOWNLOAD

I saw this dude on TRL one day all randomly like literally 8 months ago with Bliz and we were like “Who the eff is this dude?” He kicked a freestyle that was totally forgettable and so I subsequently forgot about him. Fast forward to this past weekend and I catch JDS blasting this ish on the radio. It melted my face and I spent nearly all of Monday morning at work looking for it. I really have no idea if it’s got a chance of doing anything big, but it’s a great song that slows Rich Boy’s “GOT PEANUT BUTTER ICE CREAM PETER PAN SEATS” line for the hook and the beat is HUGE. I find his claims to be a “billionaire” to be of the particularly specious variety, but I would still encourage West Philly to stand up for this dude nonetheless.
