THE AWARD WINNING *CROSSFADED BACON EP*!

Just got this email regarding from Derrick @ Bustbright, the excellent graphic designer that helped us design The Crossfaded Bacon EP Bo Bliz and I did on Flamin Hotz Records. (As a sidenote, this EP should be available digitally within the next couple weeks!!) Anyway, here’s the email:

Just wanted to let you know the Crossfaded Bacon EP has been accepted by the AIGA for this year’s AIGA 365 collection in the Packaging category. Its actually pretty tight…the AIGA is the big Graphic Design organization in the US and competition is pretty fierce. Last year they only picked one music package, and it was this huge, Wynton Marsalis, history of the French Quarter music deal. There were also only 14 pieces from the packaging category selected among the 300 pieces total last, so its kinda serious to be selected this year.

So copies of the record are gonna end up in the Denver Museum of Art AIGA Design Archive collection, a traveling exhibition, and online for as long as the internet lives at: http://designarchives.aiga.org/.

I’m pumped this got picked because it was a real collaboration between all of us (not to mention the contributions from Vlad and Michael) and its good to see a really indie label get some shine (honestly, its gonna be in the packaging category, probably next to some expensive beer or wine packaging).

I’m sure you guys are already getting some shine for the music on the release, but its nice to know that Flamin’ Hotz’s whole deal about making sure the packaging is just as tight is getting some play too.

Pretty awesome, yeah? It’s not a fucking Grammy for packaging design or anything, but we’ll save that for the next E&B release.

Thanks dudes for being so cool to work with and for pushing this shit to be as dope as possible.
D.

We’re really excited!

Diddy & Booman “Get Off”

I’m not sure how this slipped by my radar several years ago when it happened, but apparently several years back, Booman was comissioned to do an official remix for Mr. Locked In himself Diddy (aka the most annoying twitterer ever). The short version of the story is up in this 41yo.com post (which is an EXCELLENT resource for all things Bmore related). Also, go there to download Booman’s remix which is really really great!

DOWNLOAD (SHAREBEE) (ZSHARE)

I’ve made a shit load of remixes and blends over the past couple years that I play in the club really often, but I haven’t bothered to compile them in a listenable mix yet so I thought this would be a good chance to do so. So this mix is intended to be a bit of a showcase of some of the many blends I’ve done recently as well as a fun, listenable mix with some really dope joints. It starts off with a bunch of the Dance Music vs Hip-Hop Blends I’ve been doing recently and transitions pretty radically into some more dancehall oriented stuff. Hope you guys enjoy it! Also, I think most of the blends and remixes in this mix are available for download somewhere on the site so if there’s a jam you like, look around the site a bit and you should be able to find it!

Thoughts and comments welcome as always!

Baltimore Club in the New Yorker

Not sure why SFJ hollered at my dumb ass to contribute some comments on Baltimore Club (possibly because he didn’t have a link to a more reliable source than me?) in his latest blog post, but I’m not about to turn down an opportunity to wax poetic about Baltimore Club Music… even if it’s controversial! Anyway, go read his piece and maybe hit us with some comments. Also, go support that DJ Sega CD. Shit bangs.

Big ups to everyone making Baltimore Club music… even if it sucks.

No Rest for the Weary

Friday, May 15: GAMMAPALOOZA w/ 88 KEYS, IZZA KIZZA, DJ BENZI, EMYND & BO BLIZ

Saturday, May 16: REVOLVER w/ EMYND & BO BLIZ

Damn… it’s another busy weekend for your boys! No rest for the weary, right? I’ve been in France the past two weeks and will be getting back to beautiful Philadelphia tomorrow from my French excursion only to hop right into a Honda Civic and speed up 95 on a bit of a roadtrip up through the northeast. Hitting up Dartmouth on Friday for a crazy gig at a frathouse (WTF?!) and then down to Boston to wile out with our favorite Red Sox fans Ghostdad and BrekOne. Should be a hell of a weekend, but I’m not sure it can be much better than last week’s weekend in Montpellier with Raziek and the Die After Disco crew. Did a small but buckwild party with the folks out there (not to mention a whole SHITLOAD of drinking) and have since acquired like 50 Montpellier Facebook friends. If you ever find yourself in the south of France, you could do a hell of lot worse then spending some time in beautiful Montpellier. Those kids know how to party. I’m still recovering! I should be back there again very soon and big shouts to all my Montpellier folks!

Emynd & Jess Jubilee “Shake Whut Ya Got!” Re-Up

The below was originally posted July 23, 2008, but I thought I’d give it a re-bump because people don’t check sidebars like they need to. This is a mix the fabolous Jess Jubilee and I did last summer. After playing in Montpellier in the South of France this weekend and hearing my man Raziek play a bunch of jams that made their way onto this mix, I was reminded of just how awesome this mix is. If you slept on it the first time, don’t sleep on it a second time!

This is as good a time as any to point out that big homie Jess Jubilee (who I did this mix with) finally got her website up and running. Go there now for music, press, tour dates and maybe (hopefully?) one day a picture gallery of CFB’s favorite jewish raver jawn.

1ST & 15TH MIXES: VOL 15 APT ONE *BEST OF PHILLY DISCO*

BEST OF PHILLY DISCO

This month our homie Apt One from the Philadelphyinz put together an extremely thorough Philly Disco mix. It’s really dope and a must have for Disco connesiuers as well as know-nots that know nothing about Philly’s rich Disco History. Download it now and here’s what the man had to say about his fine mix:

The 1970s and early 1980s were some of the most prolific times in Philly’s music history That was the era when the “Philly Sound” took over the airwaves and dancefloors worldwide. I’ve always liked this particular era and style of music just because it’s such a source of pride for people in Philly. The positivity and warmth of the music means that playing certain jams at clubs and block parties really brings a smile to peoples faces.

A lot of this material has aged pretty well. I think that resurgence of dance sounds influenced by the downtown “Garage” scene in the 1980s has helped. Danny Krivit, Larry Levan, Shep Pettibone and other remixers from the early 80s disco scene loved the lush Philly arrangements and did some choice edits.

To make this mix I had to lay out some rules for exactly what makes a record “Philly” or not. Without being too specific – each of these records has one of the following qualifications:
1. Made by a Philly-born/bred artist
2. Made by an artist on a Philly record label
3. Written/Arranged/Composed someone strongly associated with the Philly sound
4. Played by a Philly label’s house band

Obviously I couldn’t include every great Philly tune but I wanted to get some less obvious joints in there with the well known classics to show a bit of the depth and creativity of that time and place. Enjoy!

Thoughts and comments always appreciated!
