Pryda “Armed” / Sean Paul “Temperature” (Emynd Blend)

LUNCH BREAK BEATS #10:

Pryda “Armed” / Sean Paul “Temperature” (Emynd Blend)

Emynd’s Lunch Break Beats is a series of club-friendly blends, edits, or beats Emynd produced on his laptop (usually while sitting in his car on some random side street in Wilmington, D-ware just after eating his WaWa lunch) while on his lunch break at his 9 to 5.

The whole series can be found here.

My man Bushy has been schooling me on the wonders of really cheesy Swedish House music, and I’ve been making a bunch of edits and blends of some of my faves that will work better in some cross-over situations–especially for people more familiar with hip-hop and dancehall. This Pryda and Sean Paul blend is the first in a bunch that will be coming over the couple weeks and months. Enjoy! As always, thoughts and comments are encouraged!

1998 – You Got Your Wu-Tang in My Outkast

Man, y’all can sit up here all quiet and whatnot just because it’s 4:30 and you can’t take much more of the work week, but I’ve already mentally checked out of this piece and into a 1998 state of mind. As always I’ve been prepping myself for the gems that Emynd and Bo Bliz are about to drop on Saturday, and since it’s my thing to bring the throwbacks I’m gonna have to steal a little of their thunder by reminding folks about Outkast’s “Skew It on The Bar-B,” my favorite track from 1998’s Aquemini. The video quality is kind of garbage but Wu Tang and Outkast is like chocolate and peanut butter. Delish.

DJ Class ft Lil’ Jon “I’m the Ish” (Remix)

I’ve already had my salty little diatribe chastising the Clear Channelization of Philly radio that keeps the same 20 songs in rotation on Philly radio for 6 months and subsequently prevents the radio DJs of this city really help develop a healthy local/regional scene, so I’ll spare you those thoughts and just bask in the glory that is this song. DJ Class’s OG “I’m the Shit” was so dope that JD and Traysongz hopped on the beat to drop verses having no idea who the hell it was, and this track was just recently scooped by a major (Universal, I believe). And, of course, what better way to christen a new remix than to invite Lil Jon to get up on it and ride that beat. If you’re familiar with Bmore at all, you know damn well that besides the Lyn Collin’s “Think” break, Lil Jon “What” and “Yeah” samples are standard fare in what is known in Bmore simply as “Club music.” This represents the first time Lil Jon actually makes a non-sampled appearance on a Club song, and that’s a momentous occasion as far as I’m concerned.

Here’s to hoping this track blows on a major, major scale and helps make Bmore Club a household name.

E&B/Crossfaded Bacon Need an Intern

Seriously, Emynd and Bo Bliz and the Crossfaded Bacon Massive need an Intern (or 4?). You will be responsible for really exhilarating work and you will make great contacts and learn the ins and outs of the Industry. Send an email to emyndandbobliz@gmail.com if you’re interested. This is an unpaid position, but you can get some college credit out of it and you won’t have to work for you dad’s best friend’s meat-packing plant.

If you’re a DJ, we may even let you open for us at some gigs and cover for us when we’re out of town or whatever. Anyway, let’s get it popping.

FLO-RIDAS SIDE A

DOWNLOAD (192 kps)

This month, our homie Kenny Fiesta stopped by to hit us with a club and pop-focused mix of Floridian jams. Here’s his description of this hella fun mix:

This is ‘Flo-Ridas’ Side A of a 100 minute mixtape…when I went to Miami this year, my boys asked me to make a tape for when we rented a car. This is what came out of it…I went back and did it right. This was actually done entirely in Adobe Audition. Every artist is from Florida, and usually stacked to get a full dose of them. We’re also big Pitbull fans, as in 2007 on a 4 hour drive from Tampa to Miami, we heard all his albums.

Side B coming soon, but for now, enjoy Side A, (even if it is a bit heavy on Crossfaded Bacon Anti-Favorite Plies songs)!

Biggie Smalls Throwback

I saw Notorious this weekend and really enjoyed it. Instead of replicating a full review over here you can catch it over at my own site if you’re curious about the details. Just know that it was hot, especially for true fans, and I highly recommend it. The best part of the movie, though, beyond the chance to reflect on the significance of one of hip-hop’s finest artists, was the music itself. As much as I bump Biggie occasionally on my own being in a theater full of heads rhyming along made his dopeness really sink in. A really smart early scene showed a young Frank White freestyling on a Fulton Street corner in Brooklyn (which nowadays has plastic surgery and law offices, but those are the wonders of gentrification, I guess). The freestyle in the movie was cribbed from this real footage below. He was definitely one of the best to ever do it.

Meek Mill feat Chinko “Bacardi”

As always, thanks to Philly Ish we got that new Meek Mill and Chinko clubby joint. I’m into it.

Bunch O’ Stuff for Jan/Feb

First things first, my man Wayne has been killing it lately over on his always wonderful blog Wayne And Wax with several really well-written and thoughtful posts about Post-“A Milli” Beats and Stevie Wonder’s CHOICE to use autotune. If you’re not checking his blog on a daily basis, you’re doing your daily routine a severe disservice. And he shouts us out, which is always nice and appreciated.

Second things second, we’re not DJing this weekend which is extremely WTF because we’ve been so damn busy lately, so I’m taking this opportunity to go see one of my favorite artists Romanthony up in NY with Pink Skull and Hug Mode. Stop by Love and say hi. I will be the best dressed bearded man in the building.

A Note on Art Collection

"Untitled" The Boxer 1982

I always wonder who owns/sells/buys famous pieces of art. Last year Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich Sold Jean-Michel Basquiat’s “Untitled”(The Boxer) for $13.5 Million in a New York auction, after owning it for 10 years. He had this to say about art collection…

I have a lot of faith in the art market,It’s perhaps the last frontier where the best of the best will not go the way of the rest of the economy.

Kardinal Offishal “Nina” (Black Chiney)

Big up to Ross Hawg for putting me up on this monster.
