@LASTWORDMPLS – SOMEWHERE BETWEEN FAST FOOD & VEGAN VOL. 1

Just posting this because I’ve gotten a few requests for it behind the scenes. Don’t forget to check Last Word’s Volume 2 of this series. So ill. Last Word’s notes about Volume 1 mix:

A project I did of remixes of Minneapolis rappers music. i.e. Atmosphere, Brother Ali, Carnage. It’s all sample based, and the quality on some of them isn’t the greatest. People have really enjoyed it that copped it back in the day. It also has all the instrumentals.

Hope y’all enjoy it.

Heavy Warmup Vol 3 @DJAnonymous

DJ Anonymous: Heavy Warmup Vol 3 Classic Dancehall Mix by DJ Anonymous

Our friend, mentor, and old-head DJ Ayres started a great mix series over on his website called “Heavy Warmup” where, in his own words “I’m sharing my favorite DJs’ warmup sets, showing you how the pros get a crowd moving without burning through all the big records before midnight.” Really dope series. If you’re a DJ, you know how frustrating it is when some new jack DJ thinks that playing all the hits at 10:47 PM is how you get a party crackin’. NAGL, YOUNG BOL! Anyway, Ayres did a mix, DJ Eleven did one, and now DJ Anonymous from the Top Billin crew did one. Great stuff and please let this be a lesson to all y’all aspiring DJ dudes: there’s literally THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of songs you could be playing in your opening set to get the party popping.

If you’re not following DJ Anonymous on soundcloud you needs to be and here’s what DJ Anonymous himself says about the mix:

“As much as I’ve been into disco and house recently, I still love to play a lot of different things. Classic dancehall and early digital stuff especially has been close to my heart always, when Ayres asked me to take part in the Heavy Warmup series it was just the right excuse to finally put together a mix. No matter what you’re going to play later on Cocoa Tea should get the party started right. Enjoy!” – Anonymous

Tracklist:
Shinehead: Mama Used To Say
Shinehead: Billie Jean
Cocoa Tea: Party People
Kenny Knots: Watch How The People Dancing

@ThemJean Balloons Video

Great new video from Them Jeans for his now classic “Balloons.” His words here:

This is my first music video, directed by an old friend of mine Chris and his partner Bill, who produce videos and many other things under the name Walter Robot. The video stars Chris’ brother Den, as he goes on a wild drug filled adventure through town, ending up in another stereotypical music video club scene. Den is often the muse in all of Chris’ work through the years, but he really gets to shine here. Chris has worked helping raise awareness for people with down syndrome throughout his life with various video projects such as this, and I’m glad to be a part in this strange and awesome experiment.

@TopBillinMusic For Japan Comp

Straight from the Top Billin boys! Great music for a great cause!

Ok you’ve already been to few dance events to raise money Japan and have most likely donated money already, but read this and get your dose of new music while getting a change to help for a small amount (1€ even). Things move quickly in today’s world but the need for help isn’t going away in a couple of weeks. We want to do our part too.
So here’s what’s up:

“A while a go we had an opportunity to design a compilation exclusively for the Japanese market, that was supposed to come out in April this year. The idea was to make a compilation that would reflect us in 2011, including bits from our back catalogue as well as some unreleased exclusive gems. Our friend Nakura from Tokyo was doing his job as the project manager for this and his friend and our buddy, a DJ and producer named Eccy (awesome music btw) was also taking part in this project.

But as we all know Japan was hit with the most horrific disaster in their history, tearing down almost the whole country, leaving thousands dead and even more injured, homeless or without even food.

We sat in studio, watching the devastation on TV and wondered what could we do, we have friends there. On that very moment it was clear that we should use this compilation that was designed for Japan, to help Japan.

So now we’re giving it for you in exchange of small (or bigger, your choice) donation that will go directly to Red Cross Japan. We won’t take a penny, 100% goes directly to help the people in need in Japan. Why the Red Cross? Because with them you know money will go to those really in need. If Japan has enough money, then they will help people in Libya, so your money is never lost.

We read somewhere some bitter man’s comment that he won’t donate to Japan as their GDP (gross domestic product) is 33.100$ per person, that Japan does not need money. That’s bullshit, the devastation is so big, it will take Japan years to recover.

So join us, buy this compilation for as low as 1€ if you’re really broke, or if you got a paying job, maybe pay a bit more. You get dope tunes in exchange. We respect you for your willingness to help. Thank you, arigatou gozaimasu, kiitos.”

Big thanks to all the artists involved and Nakura, Eccy, stay strong.

The A To Z of Dennis Coffey

Constellations – The A to Z of Dennis Coffey: A Mix By House Shoes by Strut

I found this via Passion of the Weiss. Dope mix with some classic tracks!

Leading up to the foundational Motor City guitarist’s new self-titled solo album, Detroit’s own House Shoes takes us on a journey through Dennis Coffey’s history of funk. Including the psychedelic b-boy soul of Coffey’s 70’s solo material, classic recordings on which he recorded as a sessions musician, hip-hop cuts which have sampled his material, and even a couple of sneak peaks at the new album’s music, Constellations is 45 minutes of straight heat, mixed by a master DJ intimately acquainted with Coffey’s legacy, and his future.

RIP Nate Dogg & @Steve1der Mix

Drawing by Dino Henderson

NATE IN ’08 (MIXED BY DJ STEVE1DER) by DJ STEVE1DER

Sad day. As my man THE SHOW aka The Class Prez said on twitter:

RIP Nate Dogg!! There would be no T-Pain, Akon, or whoever else making a living off just singing hooks without his trail blazing talent!!

The really remarkable thing about Nate Dogg to me was not only how vital he sounded on every single song he was in, but how universally accepted he was. I was surrounded by a lot of true school boom bap nerdery growing up and we all had pretty vocal and varying opinions on rap music. There were a few things however that we all agreed on and somehow or other, the fact that Nate Dogg was amazing was one of these things. His vocals have also aged really well. They don’t sound dated to me… they sound timeless. If you just take a quick glance at hip-hop, it might be easy to accuse Nate Dogg of being a cursory footnote, but anybody who knows anything about rap music knows just how important this dude is, was, and hopefully always will be. RIP Nate Dogg.

Enjoy Steve1der’s best of Nate Dogg mix above. It’s a truly great mix done with a great deal of respect for the man.
