CFB COUNTDOWN TO FREE AT LAST: 11 DAYS

FIENDS COMIN’ TO COP, FREE DUCKIN’ THE COPS…

Sorry for missing a post yesterday. Your boys were busy at work, but we’ll make up for it with a big week next week.

I don’t think this song came out because of sample clearance. That’s just a guess though. If it didn’t, I hope Mr. Richie has some type of problem with the fact that his most publicized contribution to this world is currently that bony little smut jawn and not this STREET BANGER.

The adlibs at the beginning of this track are pretty hilarious, but Free sounds dope on them uptempo hyphy keyboards.

Free’s love song to…. THE BLOCK. Some ol’ mix tape shit.

GOODBYE!!!

CFB COUNTDOWN TO FREE AT LAST: 15 DAYS

This song was floating around on a couple mixtapes about a year ago and is a rather obvious attempt to make a sequel to “Flipside.” It’s aesthetically really similar and lyrical references to the OG are made throughout the song, most notably the hook. As contrived as it sounds on paper, I still think this song works. I play it pretty often in my opening sets when DJing and while it doesn’t have the obvious recognition that “Flipside,” it still works alright in a club setting. But, really, hearing Free, Peedi, and Just Blaze together is always a good look.

CFB COUNTDOWN TO FREE AT LAST: 18 DAYS

ONLY 18 DAYS LEFT! GYEAH!

I’m not even sure if anyone cares about our little countdown here because people are scared to post comments, but we’re going to keep this thing moving forward because that’s what Freeway would want (WWFD?). In other words, leave a comment, I don’t care what it says.

Anyway, this is a dope remix of Kelis’s already dope song “Stick Up” from her underrated album “Tasty.” The song is produced by Dame Grease who’s claim to fame is producing the “Get at Me Dog” beat. I didn’t even know that until I peeped his discogs page. But, eff Kelis and eff Dame Grease because this is about Freeway. Peep.

CFB COUNTDOWN TO FREE AT LAST: 19 DAYS

Couple more Free-related joints. First, a pretty bad rip I made of the Miracles song that Kanye sampled for the State Property anthem that Bliz posted yesterday. I ripped it from my portable turntable. Sorry. It’s still an amazing song and Kanye did a great job with the samples. To this day, it’s probably my favorite Kanye beat. The Miracles song is really beautiful, too.

And, as a bonus beat, my man Nick Catchdubs from Fool’s Gold Records hit me off with this funky blend of “What We Do” that he did for the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. It’s fun and got a much different vibe than the original. Shit is really dope.

CFB COUNTDOWN TO FREE AT LAST: 20 DAYS

it seems like we grind from the bottom…

I guess you could say this is beans’ track cause he has two verses on it, but knowing what Freeway does on the third verse it’s hard to really say that. This shit is ridiculous. He didn’t rap a lot on the first State Prop album(besides international hustler) but stuff like this made it clear why he was in the front of the line for solo albums.

HOW ON EARTH COULD LIFE END LIKE THIS?

CFB COUNTDOWN TO FREE AT LAST: 21 DAYS

21 days left!

Below I’ve posted a great song with Free and Peedi off an old Peedi mixtape. Some old sample where dude is singing about weed and cocaine and both Free and Pedro kill it. Don’t complain about the 128 kbps. This jawn is rare and I’m shocked I even have it.

CFB COUNTDOWN TO FREE AT LAST: 22 DAYS

We here at Crossfaded Bacon love us some Leslie Pridgen. So much so, in fact that starting today, I’m going to be posting one Freeway-related song per day (BUSINESS DAYS ONLY… I’M BUSY HUNGOVER ON WEEKENDS) until this dude’s album drops. The song might be a Freeway song, a song featuring Freeway, the original sample of a song Freeway raps on, or something else entirely. I dunno. Whatever.

The point is, “FREE AT LAST” has finally been given a release date (NOVEMBER 20th) and I pray to god it doesn’t get pushed back indefinitely. If it does, rest assured, I will be making “FREE FREEWAY” shirts ASAP.

Anyway, here’s Day 1’s contribution. A track from the album called “It’s Over” and it’s a banger.

10182007: Emynd’s “Put You To Bed Club Theme”

Picture from Taryn Simon’s “The Innocents”(more info)

J. Holiday “Bed” (Emynd’s “Put You To Bed Club Theme”): DOWNLOAD

This is one of my more recent productions, a Club remix of J. Holiday’s R&B smash “Bed.” The OG is currently pretty huge but I think this remix gives it some use in a club setting that the song previously didn’t have. I know Benja Styles did an excellent up-tempo remix of this song as well, but mine is a little clubbier with the “Think” break, dick beat chops, and Samir-ish horns that I’m becoming famous for biting. Also, big shout outs to DJ Technics who is a big influence for these R&B club updates.

This is the first time we have taken the whole party on the road since NYC in the spring so this is sure to be some ol’ crazy shit.

Philly: we will be back on Sunday rocking with Strawberry Mansion Dj’s at Silk City. Besides that we got some other big things lined up before the end of the month so we can all still get down family style in familiar surroundings. CHECK THE BLOG HOMIES!!!

FALL BACK

It’s no secret that we here at Crossfaded Bacon love us some Peedi Crakk and it’s not just because he graced us with his presence a few months back at White Ts. This recently uncovered video for his classic “Fall Back” hints at why we love the bol so much and are on the verge of starting a letter writing campaign to Def Jam to either put the man’s album out, or let him go put it out independently… and while we’re at it, Def Jam needs to free Free as well!

09122007: Sean Paul, Mr Vegas, Mike Jones, & Emynd

Taking a page from my out-of-key but totally effective “Presidential” Crunk/Dancehall blend, I recently created this totally out-of-key but effective concoction. It’s just the melodramatic ass “Mr. Jones” instrumental with the Sean Paul and Mr. Vegas’s classic “Hot Gyal Today” from the Street Sweeper riddim. I don’t have the acapella, so I just threw the song on top, filtered out some bass and called it a day. But, it knocks as far as I’m concerned. Frankly, I can’t decide if it works despite it’s out-of-key cacophony or precsiely BECAUSE of that cacophony. There’s just something about it that’s really hard, and it might be the fact that these guys are totally not singing to this beat. Whatever, the case, if used at the appropriate time, this ish is guaranteed to bring your crowd to a frenzy. If your audience is at all familiar with carribean anthems, rock it out in your crunk sets and I’m pretty sure somebody will get punched (in a good way).

Squad call him Reefy

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I thought I would post this youtube of philly rapper and Crossfaded Bacon fam Reef the Lost Cauze. Reef is a fucking really dope rapper who has been grinding at this rap shit way before people even rocked guess jeans. He gets insane amounts of underground love, but deserves respect across the entire rap spectrum. Life has a way of pulling people in different directions, and I don’t see Reef as much as I used to, but I just know the bol will continue to stay thorough and keep making real music people in Philly can feel and can be proud of.

Peep the V-Twinz produced, “The Sound Of Philadelphia”. Reef borrows the song title from the famous Philly record label that Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff spawned(you should know that), and reflects on some of the realities we deal with living in Philadelphia- drugs, violence, poverty, corruption, frustration, and unhealthy food(which is actually a good thing).

The joint is a little old, but now is always a good time to think about the shit going on around us.

Peace y’all.
