XIB “Baltimore Bounce”

Big ups to Noz for putting me up on this ish. While Go-Go samples have turned up in many a Baltimore club track, and DC rappers haven’t been shy about rapping on Baltimore Club tracks this is certainly the most deliberate, cohesive, and successful fusion of Go-Go and Club music that have graced my tender ears. This track has two backbones–the tumbling Go-Go drums as well as a sample of Booman and Griff’s classic “Pick ‘Em Up“–while the vocals consist of re-contextualized Rap chants made into Go-Go refrains (most of which seem to be Waka Flocka lyrics and or adlibs). I have no idea how big this song is or will be in the DMV. It seems that the folks that like Go-Go and the folks that like Club music are often diametrically opposed to each other, but hopefully both groups will find this song as dope as I do. I haven’t checked the entirety of the XIB “Laugh Now Cry Later” album yet (which can be downloaded HERE), but they’ve posted it for free and am planning on checking it shortly. In the mean time, enjoy this song!

Jake One murders the soul sample loops and doesn’t even bother adding drums… and it’s all better for it! Freeway just sounds so perfect on this style of soulful, stripped-down production. Man this shit is so great. Jake One hooked up the Soulstrut messageboard with a No DJ download of the mixtape and I excavated it for y’all. Hope that’s not unethical? Wassup family? Its been a minute since I dropped a mix on here. This one is less focused than some of my older mixes on here, but I wanted to drop a mix for you guys to bang in your cars, at your bbq’s, block parties etc. The summer is finally in full swing… Let it be a memorable one with this playing in the background.

I put some relatively new stuff on there (Amerie, Rick Ross, & Playboy Tre), and I always throw on some classic joints in these types of mixes. I also spotlighted some Philly shit, some old, and one track from an up and coming artist “Tu Phace” who you will be hearing a lot more about in the future- I’m certain of that. I kept the vibe summery. Whether its on reminiscin’ type shit, or on some smoothed out type shit, these tracks all make sense for the season.

So this mix is intended to be a bit of a showcase of some of the many blends I’ve done recently as well as a fun, listenable mix with some really dope joints. It starts off with a bunch of the Dance Music vs Hip-Hop Blends I’ve been doing recently and transitions pretty radically into some more dancehall oriented stuff. Hope you guys enjoy it! Emynd & Jess Jubilee “Shake Whut Ya Got!” Re-Up

The below was originally posted July 23, 2008, but I thought I’d give it a re-bump because people don’t check sidebars like they need to. This is a mix the fabolous Jess Jubilee and I did last summer. After playing in Montpellier in the South of France this weekend and hearing my man Raziek play a bunch of jams that made their way onto this mix, I was reminded of just how awesome this mix is. If you slept on it the first time, don’t sleep on it a second time!

Bangers & Hammers Volume 2

This past weekend, big homie Steve Milladelphia moved his fine skateshop EXIT to 2nd Street and to help him celebrate his movin’ on up, I put together the second volume of the extremely popular “Bangers & Hammers” mixtape. The concept for “Bangers & Hammers” is simple: make a mixtape of great songs from some of our favorite skate videos. This time, Steve helped me select the songs and I put them together and pressed em to CD to hand out at his grand opening. I believe the CDs will be for sale for extremely cheap over at Exit soon (for like $2 or $3) if you’re interested, but you can also download the full mix for your ipod below. DJ nerds beware, this is by no means a DJ-focused mix–there’s not a whole lot of actual “mixing” (though there is some), and is mostly just a collection of dope songs.
