Emynd “Philly 2 Bmore” WAVs and TTL

My “Philly 2 Bmore” EP on Unruly Records is available as WAV over at the inimitable Turntable Lab right HERE. They give me a nice lil’ review as well:

Six new heat-seeking club tracks from Philly’s Emynd… on the one and only Unruly Records! (Congrats, homie!) Expect lots of hard, clackalackin’ Bmore drums, finely diced Lil Jon shouts and sinister bass that hits you like a punch in the gut. Emil shouts out his two favorite cities on “Philly 2 Bmore,” gets real aggro with “To All My Haters,” and even lets a little bit of label head Scottie B’s obsession with the British middle class into his life for “Smalltown Chavy Boy.” Includes instrumentals for “Haters” and “Chavy Boy,” plus a clean version of “Haters” and the useful “Urgent Party Break.” Recommended.

If you haven’t bought it, yet, WHAT’RE YOU WAITING FOR?!

Emynd & 4 AM Jess “SHAKE WHUT YA GOT”

I’m DJing Serg‘s Bass party FACE DOWN ASS UP this Saturday and I made a Bass mix with my favorite Floridian 4 AM Jess (aka Jess Jubilee). This shit is just the raunchiest, hardest, filthiest Bass jams from Florida and Georgia. If you don’t know much about Bass, you’re probably gonna have your wig blown back. This is some of the most energetic, well produced music youre even gonna here. Anyway, I’m super hype on this mix and hope y’all enjoy listening to it as much as I do!

UNRULY FLICKS/EMIL ON THE LEFT COAST

We don’t put up many party pics, but this one was truly an epic event. The amount of dj’s that came together was hard to believe and there was no hate involved. So many people have so much respect for what Scottie and Sean have done at Unruly (myself included), and they let us in their house to rock for one night, a night that will be remembered for many things. Tragically, one of the things it will be remembered for is that it was the last Paradox appearance of the legendary dj K-Swift.

Once again, RIP K-Swift. Included are some pics of her doing her thing, in her element. I’ve heard people say she was the voice of B-More and I can’t argue that, she had that room captivated friday night. Hopefully some of these pics will allow people who missed that night (as well as those who were there) to remember her in a positive way. She went out on top.

Emynd “Mad Again (NOLA Bounce Remix)” (Free Download!)

South Rakkas Crew “Mad Again (Emynd’s NOLA Bounce Remix)”:
DOWNLOAD

My Bounce “Mad Again” remix has been available for digital purchase for a while now and I figured if you haven’t bought it by now, you’re probably not going to buy it at all… so here it is for free.

Folks from New Orleans to Finland have showed me a lot of love for this track. If you’re not familiar with Bounce music, definitely download my podcast and peep the write up to get schooled on my favorite music out right now.

Big shouts to my man Peacachoo and his dude Blaza for being the main inspiration for this track.

(Just as a sidenote regarding my “Mad Again (NOLA Bounce Remix)” that I feel necessary to make clear anytime anyone posts about it on the internet, I made a very significant effort to keep it as tradtionally NOLA BOUNCE as possible. Even though I’m not from New Orleans and have had very little interaction with Bounce culture, I felt that making this remix would be a good way for me to hopefully make some people interested in the New Orleans Bounce music that I’ve grown to love over the past couple years. In order to do this with some level of self-respect in tact and to attempt to avoid the cultural imperiliaism I often find myself rallying against, I made a very clear and deliberate effort to make this remix a blatant IMITATION of my favorite Bounce artists and produceers. Not only did I sample the New Orleans Bounce staples (the Triggerman bells, Triggerman breaks, the “WHO!” and the “Alright!” from The Showboys “Drag Rap” as well as the “Rock the Beat”/”Brown Beat” drum break), but I also very deliberatley sampled vocals from Gotty Boi Chris, Dime Gyrl Drell, and De Ja Vu, and imitated the production styles of my favorite Bounce producers: Blaza, Peacachoo, Blaqnmild (aka Blaq Biggi Blaq), and Took. If you’re at all into my Bounce remix, I highly suggest you visit the linked myspace pages above and purchase some of that AUTHENTIC New Orleans Bounce music. Big shouts to Mr.604 as well.)

Emynd – Philly 2 Bmore – www.unrulyonline.com

1. Emynd “To All My Haters”

A pretty simple and traditional track with a lot of bass and a menacing synth line. I rocked the most memorable line from Shawty Lo’s “Dey Know” (“…to all my Haters!”) and added a silly “F*ck you!” chant but this is by no means a “Dey Know” remix–it’s a whole new song. So far, this ish has worked really well in the club alongside a lot of the more aggressive Bmore that a lot of us already play. People love yelling “F*ck you!” apparently. Obviously, this track is really Mike Mumbles and Say Wut inspired.

3. Emynd “Philly 2 Bmore”

Another track that is influenced greatly by the stuff Mike Mumbles and Say Wut are doing with chopped and pitched vocal samples. The “Philadelphia” and “Baltimore” samples are from “Dancing In the Street” and I just thought it was kind’ve a cool concept to bring this EP together (CONCEPTUAL BMORE, SON!). The middle parts are real traditional and simple with the Lil Jon “What!” sample, the dick beat, and the chopped Nina Simone break, but we all know that simple Bmore ish often knocks the hardest.

4. Emynd “Oogum Boogum Theme”

I love Bmore soul remixes and wanted to make sure this EP had one. My big homies Brendan Bringem and Pandemonium Jones had the OG Brenton Woods song on a soul mix they did and that immediately gave me the idea for this song. I didn’t love this song at first, but my dude Starkey who mixed and mastered it spent a lot of time on it and actually made me like it a lot more by doing a phenomenal job with it. He’s highly recommended if you’re looking for Mixing and/or Mastering work (www.starkey-music.com).

5. Emynd “Smalltown Chavy Boy”

I’ve been meaning to make a Bmore remix of Bronski Beat’s “Smalltown Boy” forever but only got around to it recently. I wanted this to be structurally and aesthetically similar to Scottie B’s “London Wild.” This joint has pretty good crossover appeal for the more Hipster audience but still sounds good in a more traditional Bmore set as well.

7. Emynd “Back At Your Ass”

A really simple but effective song. It doesn’t sound like much on your computer speakers or in your bedroom, but everytime I play this joint out, it gets a really good reaction. Again, I think the effectiveness is found in its simplicity. I have a tendency to really over-produce stuff and just keep adding stuff until my ish is muddled and somewhat incomprehensible, but this is simple and it works.

8. Emynd “Urgent Party Break”

I’m not sure how useful this is in a party situation, but I’ve always loved this synth line (I know it from DJ Laz’s “Stick Out Your Butt” but I’m not sure if it originates there or is from an older electro song) and wanted to make a barebones, Bmore-inspired party break out of it. It’s more 4 on the floor with hints of Bmore and Miami Bass drum elements. I’m into it.

Young Chris- New Track

This shit is hot. Hit Chris’ listening party the other week. The album he is currently working on is sickening. I will give up on rap altogether if it gets held up for some BS reason. He is working with some serious names (philly dudes) so that should help. Let us pray.

Chris

“Party”

Madonna “Like A Prayer (Emynd’s It Takes Two Blend)”

A blend (MASHTASTIC) I did way back in the day that showed up on the Emynd & Bo Bliz Lemon Red mix a couple years back. It still gets a lot of play in certain (i.e. WHITE) situations and goes over well. Basically just adding beefier drums to anything is always a good idea.

Emil’s Mix/Jersey Shore/Techno/Trance

Before I get into anything else, make sure you scroll down and dl Emil’s Bounce Mix that’s causing so much controversy on the nets.

Yes, people who work on Wall St. have opinions about music, and if we spend enough time on the hollerboard we are in peril of listening to those opinions.

But anyways, I am going to the Jersey Shore tomorrow to get away from my not-very-stressful life for a week. I will be in Wildwood, NJ… Sick, huh?

watch for the tramcar please

“Watch for the tramcar please, w-w-w-watch for the tramcar please…”

At one point in time (before my time) Wildwood was a center of nightlife and music culture on the East Coast, especially doo-wop. Dick Clark would do American Bandstand down there. “Rock Around the Clock” was first performed there by Bill Haley and the Comets, and so was “The Twist” by Chubby Checker. Did you know Bobby Rydell, Frankie Avalon, and Chubby Checker all graduated from South Philly High? Apparently they all used to party/perform in Wildwood all summer. Serious movement going on back then.

Pretty amazing stuff, if you want to read more click this, and just roam a little. I definitely feel like I missed out on that era. Could have found love back then or something. But I digress…

Nowadays, every club down there is a straight Trance jump-off with maybe a Hip-Hop room if you are lucky. Coincidentally, I have also been reading this “Last Night A DJ Saved My Life” (google it) book that Emil lent me. Now, when I was younger, I was a huge rave hater (proud wigga- bitch!), and I guess I still kind of am. I had never given much thought to how all this nonsense (E-Music) had happened and where it came from. More recently I have gotten a better idea of where it came from, but not in a sense that I knew any of the artists or anything like that.

Now, I have an idea of what early House sounds like, but not really early Techno, and Techno seems to be a closer cousin of Trance than House. Basically, Wildwood, Trance, that book, etc. got me thinking and I decided to dl what was called the first Techno compilation from the Detroit OG’s imported to Europe that birthed the international electronic scene that we have now. I’m planning to listen to it with an open mind, because if ever Techno was good, I’m thinking the original Detroit shit must have been it. I figure listening to it will at least give me some insight about how House–>Techno–>Trance etc.

OK, I’m done making excuses for why I’m listening to this crap. But trust me, I will be lounging at the Shore getting red with this in my Ipod next week.

Martha Reeves and the Vandellas “Dancing In the Street” (Emynd’s “Treat ’em Right” Swizz Beats Blend)

Emynd’s Lunch Break Beats is a series of club-friendly blends, edits, or beats Emynd produced on his laptop (usually while sitting in his car on some random side street in Wilmington, D-ware just after eating his WaWa lunch) while on his lunch break at his 9 to 5.

The whole series can be found here.

LUNCH BREAK BEATS #7:

Martha Reeves and the Vandellas “Dancing In the Street”
(Emynd’s “Treat ’em Right” Swizz Beats Blend)

If you’ve been riddiming up the Mary J “Just Fine” Remix with Wayne (produced by Swizz Beats) with Chubb Rock’s “Treat ‘Em Right” like me, this little blend might come in handy to help keep the vibe going. Portions of this sound a little bit off, but I think on the whole, this works surprisingly well and can rock a variety of crowds. As always, thoughts are appreciated!

Salute The Bol

JEEZY

So yeah, I listen to a bunch bullshit waiting for new Jeezy material but this is the one. You know, the one that actually has some tracks from the upcoming album. It’s heat and my mans that’s known for stickin’ to the script did just that. It’s only 12 tracks, so you won’t be skipping through lot of guest verses with up and coming rnb youngs and lils. I been waiting for this. Some highlights:

“passengers a red bone, her weave look like some curly fries,
insides fish sticks, outside tartar sauce,
pocket full of celery, imagine what she telling me,
blowing on asparagus, realest shit I ever smoked,
riding to that trap or die, the realest shit I ever wrote,
they know I got that broccoli, so I keep that glock on me…”

Hungry? I mean we heard the food metaphors before, but this has to be the first time someone made hair weave appealing by comparing it to some curly fries. Don’t worry Jeezy, I’M RIDING!!!!!

But yeah, Jeezy is funny at times but mostly he’s just killing it.

GRAB THAT YOUNG JEEZY “PRIME MINISTER” MIXTAPE

I GO BY THEM GOON RULES

Big homie Say Wut — one of the many Baltimore Club kings over at Unruly Records out of Bmore — recently made this staggeringly dope remix of Lil Wayne’s “A Milli.” Keeping the simplicity of the OG, Say Wut just chops the hell out of his favorite “Go” sample making a dope little chop-and-melody combo that absolutely KNOCKS. The 808s and drums are basically the same as the OG, but the “GO!” chops give this some new life and really works in the club. Drop the original “A Milli” and then half way through just rewind that bia and drop this ish.

Bo Bliz’ Stevie Wonder Mix

Stevie

This is a couple years old, but obviously its a timeless mix. This guy is my GOAT, so I tried to put my favorite shit on there and spread my love for him. There isn’t really a theme to it as he is an insanely multi-dimensional artist. But it does have more 70’s shit on it than music from any other era. A lot of people have made Stevie Wonder tapes that focused on his more obscure stuff but this is mostly obvious. There is even some scratching on there. Can’t beat that. All vinyl mix cuz I’m real like that.

GRAB THAT ISH HERE!!!

PS- PARTIES ARE GOING DOWN THIS WEEKEND FOLKS!
