And now for something completely different… When I first envisioned the 1st & 15th Mix Series, I imagined it becoming slightly more diverse than it’s so far shaped up to be. This mix is the first step in attempting to push this mix series outward and onward. So, this time around, we invited our dude Sal Paradise to do a mix and he chose a really interesting change of pace with a long, live mix of Minimal Techno and Tech House. I’m not intimately schooled in a lot of this music so I found this mix really fun and eye-opening. It’s often dark and spacey, but moves along gracefully and is a really solid listen to front to back. Check out Sal’s blog for more info or go see him play in NYC sometime. In the mean time, download this mix and let us know what you think!

“Best of Schoolly D

DOWNLOAD (Sharebee 192 kps)

This month I wanted to get back into some Philly rap shit. I put the spotlight on Schoolly D as I think he is one of the more overlooked old school rappers. Dude has SO MUCH material. I kept the tracklisting to what I would call his glory years from 86-91. PSK/Saturday Nite definitely made the mix, but this joint is more about the less played joints.

If you don’t know about Schoolly by now I suggest you google him because I’m having trouble coming up with a two sentence bio about a man many credit as the father of gangsta rap.

Anyways, DL this shit and reminisce, or get to know the mind of Schoolly.

1. Parkside 5-2
2. Dedication to all B-Boys
3. Just Another Killer
4. Coqui 900

Look, I know Memphis Bleek is not the best rapper in the world. When I told Noz that I was doing a Memphis Bleek best of, he was flabbergasted and exclaimed that “Bleek is empirically bad… like only slightly better than that random girl on Outkast’s ‘Mamacita.'” Ouch. Whatever though. While I recognize that Bleek is not always the best rapper in the world, dude has made a whole bunch of songs that I like. I mean, damn, dude has like 5 albums. WTF! Somehow I dug up 30 jams of his that I like and put them together and I’ll be damned if this mix isn’t awesome. It’s got some classic joints that I still play in the club to this day (like “Is That Your Chick” and “It’s Alright”), some rarities (like the absolutely incredible “Yes”), and even random stuff like Eli Escobar’s amazing remix of “4 Da Fam.” By the way, it was a funny thing to cut Jay-Z verses off of bleek songs for this mix on some “Wait, I’m doing this backwards.” Hah. So yeah, honestly, I don’t really expect any of you to love this mix as much as me, but I hope you do!

Comments and thoughts are welcome as always, but don’t bother linking me to Bleek’s horrible Garnier Fructis ad. I’ve already tried to suffer through it for the LOLZ and couldn’t even get a minute into it.

1. Memphis Bleek – U Know Bleek
2. Memphis Bleek – Memphis Bleek Is…
3. The Dynasty – Get Your Mind Right Mami
4. Beanie Sigel ft Memphis Bleek – Who Want What
5. The Dynasty – Holla
6. Memphis Bleek ft MOP – First, Last and Only
7. Memphis Bleek – 534
8. Memphis Bleek – All Types Of Shit
9. Memphis Bleek – Round Here
10. Memphis Bleek – They’ll Never Play Me
11. Memphis Bleek ft Jay-Z and Missy – Is That Your Chick
12. Memphis Bleek – Yes
13. Memphis Bleek ft Proof – Get Low
14. Memphis Bleek – Everything’s A Go
15. Memphis Bleek – Roc-A-Fella Get Low Respect It
16. Memphis Bleek – 1, 2 Y’all

Outkast Party Mix

DOWNLOAD (192 kps)

This month, our homie buddy Bobby Analog hits us off with a solid mix of Outkast party anthems that’s sure to keep your after-party swerving. My only complaint with the mix is that it’s a bit heavy on Ableton time-stretching, but otherwise, it’s a dope collection and we’re psyched that Bobby hit us off with it! Definitely helping me through my case of the Mondays right now.

Alright so I mixed this one up a little. Some semi-new stuff and a lot of slept on shit. There is loads of hard-ass club that people forget about that its a sin. Haven’t y’all heard about that “new-old shit”?

Volume 8: Kenny Fiesta 01.15.2009

DOWNLOAD (192 kps)

This month, our homie Kenny Fiesta stopped by to hit us with a club and pop-focused mix of Floridian jams. Here’s his description of this hella fun mix:

This is ‘Flo-Ridas’ Side A of a 100 minute mixtape…when I went to Miami this year, my boys asked me to make a tape for when we rented a car. This is what came out of it…I went back and did it right. This was actually done entirely in Adobe Audition. Every artist is from Florida, and usually stacked to get a full dose of them. We’re also big Pitbull fans, as in 2007 on a 4 hour drive from Tampa to Miami, we heard all his albums.

Side B coming soon, but for now, enjoy Side A, (even if it is a bit heavy on Crossfaded Bacon Anti-Favorite Plies songs)!

This month, I (Emynd) wanted to make a mix of some of the new-ish R&B I’ve been into so I could listen to it on my just-long-enough-to-be-annoying drive to work every day. Some of it is cheesy, some of it is sappy, some of it is HARD, and some of it is guilty pleasure steez, but whatever… I fux with this stuff. Serg will hate this, but you shouldn’t. Mostly done in one-take with a bit of editing here and there to clean up some stuff. I scratched a little bit too much in parts because I got all ADD while doing this in one-take, so sorry about that. Anyway, enjoy!

“Best of Reef”

For this month I wanted to put the spotlight on some CFB fam, Reef The Lost Cauze. When I set out to do this mix, I was reviewing a whole gigabytes worth of mp3’s of this motherfucker. REEF HAS BEEN RAPPING A LOT. I mean a lot since like 3rd grade. But really it seems like his modern rap career started with “The High Life”. What was that, 01? Something like that.

Anyways, I was moving back to Philly from PSU and making lots of beats around that time and we collabbed on his next album “Invisible Empire” (as did Emil/Emynd). Since then he’s been dropping solo albums, crew albums, solo mixtapes, producer collab albums- all types of shit. To do this mix I ended up cutting out any rapper collabs, I just wanted to focus on Reef. Reef is a MOTHERFUCKING VERSATILE ARTIST!!! I put his battle raps, his more personal tracks, his what’s going on type tracks… all that shit, and yeah, it wasn’t easy to cut joints out to make it roughly 70 minutes. I hope y’all feel the tracklisting, and more importantly I hope Reef doesn’t think I left anything off, or cut verses off he wanted on there. Doing these is definitely different and tougher when it’s your bol’s shit.

Enough talking… I’m rambling. Make it clear though… This guy is a fucking monster. If you hate on this dude because who he rolls with or who he is associated with, fuck what you heard. This dude is nasty on all types of tracks.

With or without this music shit, it’s an honor to call him my people.

GO COP “A VICIOUS CYCLE” Digitally or the CD.

Sorry Reef no gun shots.

This month, our friend DJ Ayres from The Rub in Brooklyn was kind enough to offer his services, volunteering a “Best of Jeezy” tape. Jeezy is easily one of our favorite rappers right now and Ayres does a great job representing Jeezy’s best known classics mixed splendidly with his lesser known rarities and guest appearances. Ayres was so excited about doing this mix, he actually threw on a Snowman chain and went on a photoshoot! So ill! But yeah, it’s a really listenable mix and we’re extremely pleased to present it to you today. Hope you enjoy it and please feel free to drop a few comments. Don’t forget to hit up The Rub in Philly at the TLA this Thursday or their epic monthly this Saturday in Brooklyn as well. Easily one of the best parties in the WORLD (no hyperbole!).

1st and 15th Mix Series- Bo Bliz presents “Best of Project Pat”

OK. It’s definitely a day later than “pretty much”. But its a monster mix and this dude is so sincere. Seriously… Grab this and ride around or drink liquor with your squad. I split it up into albums again. I stuck to the main studio records rather than mixtapes and put the hits on there. This means the club joints, the reflective joints (really), and the STREET bangers (of which there are a lot of).

No one is really fucking with this guy…

1st & 15th (Pretty Much) Mix Series: Volume 1: Bo Bliz “Best of T.I.”

Included are all of his best joints from “I’m Serious” to “T.I. vs. T.I.P.” The tape is arranged album by album, except I threw “Big Shit Poppin'” on there with “King”, because in my opinion, “T.I. vs. T.I.P.” was trash. If you’ve only listened to dude’s hits, you’ve been fucking up, and this mix should acquaint you with a little of what you’ve been missing.

I left off any tracks from his new album, because you really need to buy that shit… The beats and the focus weren’t really there for “T.I. vs. T.I.P.”, but he’s back on his grizzly for this new shit.

T.I. can do sentimental joints, club bangers, street anthems, and joints for the ladies. I put a little bit of all that on there. Right now it’s one long mix, but I may also track it out. The tracklist is in the comments section on the ID3 tags.
