Release Info:
The Club Champ EP” is Emynd‘s newest digital-only EP of exclusive Club and Dance anthems that showcase his forward thinking approach of uniquely combining his vast influences, infusing songs with elements of Hip-Hop, House, Baltimore Club, and New Orleans Bounce. On the title track “The Club Champ,” Emynd digs deep into his Hip Hop breakbeat background, producing an energetic Bmore influenced banger that thumps with heavy organs and smashing kick drums. While Scott Matelic‘s remix of the track adds various twists and turns that recontextualize the vibe effortlessly, premier New Orleans producer Peacachoo‘s Bounce remix completely deconstructs the song, transforming it into an entirely new Bounce anthem that’ll rattle the bassbins from the Bayou to Bass Music parties everywhere. Rounding out the release are the tumbling “Triggerman” bells on “Hot Down Here,” the NY House influenced “Okay! What’s Up!” and “Hold It Down 2009” — a track originally featured exclusively on the Do It To It Volume 2 Vinyl release alongside work from heavyweights Nadastrom, Bird Peterson, and Tittsworth. (“Hold it Down 2009” is Emynd’s updated re-working of the classic 2 Bad Mice song “Hold It Down”) Already supported by some of the biggest DJs in the world from Diplo to Sinden to Dave Nada, it’s another sure fire, champion sound release!

Today I’ve upped 320 MP3s for the internets to download of Scott Matelic‘s great remix of the title track, and my “Hold It Down 2009.” Comments and feedback appreciated as always and thanks for the support!

Sorry, y’all I’m in France so I haven’t had a chance to tag this properly or give it a proper 1st & 15th cover design, but the music is more important anyway, right? This week I’m very proud to host my man Meistro’s second installment of his very good Crab Chips & Lake Trout series which is, as he describes as a mix where each “track was either produced (or remixed) by a Baltimore artist. It is not an attempt at a “best of,” just a mix of tracks that represent the diversity of the Baltimore sound — new and old (although mostly from the past five years or so). Vocal joints, gospel, club bangers, etc. Hope you dig it!” It’s always nice to showcase the diversity found in Baltimore (it aint ALL just Club music out there!) and Meistro does a great job here. We love this mix and hope you do as well! Comments and thoughts always welcome!

The first installment of Crab Chips & Lake Trout is posted after the jump as well!

Wale f/ Lady Gaga – Chillin’ (SKRATCH BASTID REMIX)

Another “Chillin”‘remix that’s way better than the horrendous OG.

Wale f/ Lady Gaga – Chillin’ (SKRATCH BASTID REMIX) from Skratch Bastid on Vimeo.

My man Skratch Bastid on his excellent remix:

For my latest mixtape, “110%”, I decided to remix Wale’s first major label single “Chillin” f/ Lady Gaga. For the remix, I wanted to go with something more organic to make it different than the 808- & synth-heavy original. To keep it DC, I sampled a break from go-go band Trouble Funk’s “Let’s Get Small”, which Boogie Down Productions used on their classic “Criminal Minded”. From there, I layered 2 other breaks that BDP used in that song (Isaac Hayes’ “Breakthrough” and Syl Johnson’s “Different Strokes”) and added some more samples and loops to accompany certain lines that Wale raps. The result is an uptempo, mega-mix style remix, suitable for the clubs, the jeeps, the streets, bar mitzvahs, weddings and ipods. 110%!

You can download the track right HERE!

New Emynd Track on Top Billin Volume 3

From the Top Billin Website:

The third and final episode in the ‘Tales’ saga has been a long time coming and here it finally is. The EP is our favorite so far as we got 3 very special tracks from our international friends and another 3 bangers from within our Helsinki crew.

Philly’s very own Emynd has been a Top Billin affiliate for a while and we’re super happy to have him on this EP. ‘What About Tomorrow’ builds on a timeless 80’s classic, starting off with club style chops and soon progressing into housier territory. This one’s for the ladies, no doubt. Emynd also killed it at our club night here, so go ahead and book him.

Go here to read about the release and download a mix with snippets. Gonna be a dooooooooooooope record! Available now exlcusively RIGHT HERE! GO COP IT

Pryda “Reeperbahn” / Ying Yang Twins “Wild Out” (Emynd Blend)

LUNCH BREAK BEATS #16:

Pryda “Reeperbahn” / Ying Yang Twins “Wild Out” (Emynd Blend)

Emynd’s Lunch Break Beats is a series of club-friendly blends, edits, or beats Emynd produced on his laptop (usually while sitting in his car on some random side street in Wilmington, D-ware just after eating his WaWa lunch) while on his lunch break at his 9 to 5.

The whole series can be found here.

Another modern day Hip-House blend with some good ol’ fashioned Swedish House and Crunk vocals blended on top. If you’ve been playing “Reeperbahn” in the club, you already know it’s a huge song. The Ying Yang Twins vocals really work on top and add a lot of energy to it for crowds who aren’t really ready for full on House shit. Thoughts and comments appreciated as always!

Diddy & Booman “Get Off”

I’m not sure how this slipped by my radar several years ago when it happened, but apparently several years back, Booman was comissioned to do an official remix for Mr. Locked In himself Diddy (aka the most annoying twitterer ever). The short version of the story is up in this 41yo.com post (which is an EXCELLENT resource for all things Bmore related). Also, go there to download Booman’s remix which is really really great!

I’ve made a shit load of remixes and blends over the past couple years that I play in the club really often, but I haven’t bothered to compile them in a listenable mix yet so I thought this would be a good chance to do so. So this mix is intended to be a bit of a showcase of some of the many blends I’ve done recently as well as a fun, listenable mix with some really dope joints. It starts off with a bunch of the Dance Music vs Hip-Hop Blends I’ve been doing recently and transitions pretty radically into some more dancehall oriented stuff. Hope you guys enjoy it! Also, I think most of the blends and remixes in this mix are available for download somewhere on the site so if there’s a jam you like, look around the site a bit and you should be able to find it!

Thoughts and comments welcome as always!

Emynd & Jess Jubilee “Shake Whut Ya Got!” Re-Up

The below was originally posted July 23, 2008, but I thought I’d give it a re-bump because people don’t check sidebars like they need to. This is a mix the fabolous Jess Jubilee and I did last summer. After playing in Montpellier in the South of France this weekend and hearing my man Raziek play a bunch of jams that made their way onto this mix, I was reminded of just how awesome this mix is. If you slept on it the first time, don’t sleep on it a second time!

This is as good a time as any to point out that big homie Jess Jubilee (who I did this mix with) finally got her website up and running. Go there now for music, press, tour dates and maybe (hopefully?) one day a picture gallery of CFB’s favorite jewish raver jawn.

This month our homie Apt One from the Philadelphyinz put together an extremely thorough Philly Disco mix. It’s really dope and a must have for Disco connesiuers as well as know-nots that know nothing about Philly’s rich Disco History. Download it now and here’s what the man had to say about his fine mix:

The 1970s and early 1980s were some of the most prolific times in Philly’s music history That was the era when the “Philly Sound” took over the airwaves and dancefloors worldwide. I’ve always liked this particular era and style of music just because it’s such a source of pride for people in Philly. The positivity and warmth of the music means that playing certain jams at clubs and block parties really brings a smile to peoples faces.

A lot of this material has aged pretty well. I think that resurgence of dance sounds influenced by the downtown “Garage” scene in the 1980s has helped. Danny Krivit, Larry Levan, Shep Pettibone and other remixers from the early 80s disco scene loved the lush Philly arrangements and did some choice edits.

To make this mix I had to lay out some rules for exactly what makes a record “Philly” or not. Without being too specific – each of these records has one of the following qualifications:
1. Made by a Philly-born/bred artist
2. Made by an artist on a Philly record label
3. Written/Arranged/Composed someone strongly associated with the Philly sound
4. Played by a Philly label’s house band

Obviously I couldn’t include every great Philly tune but I wanted to get some less obvious joints in there with the well known classics to show a bit of the depth and creativity of that time and place. Enjoy!

Thoughts and comments always appreciated!
