South Rakkas “Mad Again (Emynd’s NOLA Bounce Remix)”

Out now on itunes (and I think soon on Turntable Lab’s Digital Section) is my official New Orleans Bounce Remix of the amazing South Rakkas song “Mad Again.” I tried to keep this as traditionally NOLA BOUNCE as possible, rocking the Triggerman bells, the Triggerman breaks, the “WHO!” and the “Alright!” and the “Rock the Beat”/”Brown Beat” drum break. I also sampled vocals from Gotty Boi Chris, Dime Gyrl Drell, and a few others to attempt to give this an authentically N’awlins slant, ya hoird me? Anyone that knows anything about current Bounce music can tell that this ish is HEAVILY influenced by Blaza, Peacachoo, and Took who had a large part in the excellent NOLA Bounce mixtape Shake, Twerk, and Wobble (COP IT!!!). Big shouts to Mr. 604 as well.

You can listen to my remix on THE MYSPACE or on the Crossfaded Bacon 2008 Mix mixed between some more NOLA Bounce.

Shouts to Diplo and the Mad Decent army for putting the young bol on.

Lunch Break Beats #5: UMD/Sharon S “Wonderful” (Emynd’s “Drop” Party Break)

Emynd’s Lunch Break Beats is a series of club-friendly blends, edits, or beats Emynd produced on his laptop (usually while sitting in his car on some random side street in Wilmington, D-ware just after eating his WaWa lunch) while on his lunch break at his 9 to 5.

The whole series can be found here.

LUNCH BREAK BEATS #5:

UMD/Sharon S “Wonderful” (Emynd’s “Drop” Party Break)

I really know very little about House music and kind’ve just assumed this Sharon S song “Wonderful” (1993/4) was a really well-known, classic House track. Apparently it’s not though because I asked a couple in-the-know folks if they had a high quality mp3 of it so I could upgrade, and these know-it-alls knew nothing. A couple folks had heard it though, so it’s not completely obscure or anything. Anyway, this is one of my favorite House songs ever and I wanted to throw some stuff on top of the more spacious parts to make this more relevant for a crowd that isn’t made up primarily of House music nerds. So, I threw Fatman Scoop on top yelling a lot and Timbaland’s brief verse from “Drop” intros the song for easy mixing.

Lunch Break Beats #4: Shawty Red “Drifter” vs Elephant Man “Die By Gun” (Emynd Blend)

LUNCH BREAK BEATS #4:

Shawty Redd “Drifter (Inst)” / Elephant Man “Die By Gun” (Emynd Blend)

RUN FOR COVER! Elephant Man’s classic “Die By Gun” from the Stepz Riddim on top of THE BEST PRODUCER ALIVE’s Vibe Music jam “Drifter.” I really really love this beat and thinks the Energy God fits on top nicely.

Lunch Break Beats #3: The Roots vs Busy Signal (Emynd Blend)

LUNCH BREAK BEATS #3:

The Roots “75 Bars (Inst)” / Busy Signal “Not My Problem” (Emynd Blend)

I recently told my man noz that Philly rappers should only rap on drums. That should be the Philly regional sound: rap, drums, and maybe a couple honks or chimes here and there (and, to a certain extent, that kind’ve is the legacy and history of Philly rap as is). “75 Bars” is another drum heavy Philly jawn that knocks so effing hard in its simplicity. As soon as I heard the song a couple weeks back, I knew I wanted to spicen it up a bit and put a Jamaican DJ on top. Busy Signal fits the ball quite well. I kept it short and sweet and threw some always effective Fatman Scoop chants on the intro.

Knock it!

Lunch Break Beats #2: Ding Dong vs Reel 2 Reel (Emynd Blend)

Emynd’s Lunch Break Beats is a series of club-friendly blends, edits, or beats Emynd produced on his laptop (usually while sitting in his car on some random side street in Wilmington, D-ware just after eating his WaWa lunch) while on his lunch break at his 9 to 5.

LUNCH BREAK BEATS #2:

Ding Dong’s “Badman Forward” / Reel 2 Reel’s “Move It” (Emynd Blend)

Man, the best thing about Serato [besides saving my back (PAUSE)] is that you can whip something up and try it out at the club THAT NIGHT. I dropped this relatively simple, re-sequenced, & re-worked blend of Ding Dong’s “Badman Forward” on top of Reel 2 Reel’s timeless corny house anthem “Move It” at the club last night and it was by far one of the most effective things I played all night. Certainly not something for all crowds, but the Ding Dong vocals add some fresh life to this track and makes it significantly less corn-infused. I’m particularly happy with the swooping delay that leads right up to the Ding Dong vocal drop.

Like Bliz’s recent Mavado blend here this was inspired by Federation Sound’s blend of Vybz Kartel on top of “Show Me Love.”

As always, thoughts are appreciated.

Lunch Break Beats #1: Elephant Man vs Madonna (Emynd Blend)

LUNCH BREAK BEATS #1:

Elephant Man “Egyptian Dance” / Madonna & Timbaland “4 Minutes” (Emynd Blend)

This is the first of many tracks I will be posting over the next several weeks and months of useful club joints that I produced while on my lunch break at work (9 to 5 DJs/Producers, please stand up!). The first of these tracks is this dancehall version of Madonna, JT, and Timbaland”s “4 Minutes.” I love the beat and wanted to make something HARD out of it that I could drop at the club that wouldn’t immediately soften up the vibe. The Elephant Man acapella is pretty old (it’s from the Egyptian riddem from 2003) but I think it sounds good on this ish despite being out of key. I also threw some Fatman scoop party break ish on top of the mixable intro to keep it hype.

04062008: Fugazi “Long Division (Emynd’s Disco Edit)”

I’ve always loved the OG of this song and wanted to make a version that would fit in aesthetically with some of the stuff I’ve been playing lately. So, I kept it pretty simple: extended it, boosted it up with some four on the floor drums and a bit of tasteful synth additions. Some of you have probably heard it on my Crossfaded Bacon 2008 Mix that I posted recently, and I got a bunch of requests for it through email, so here it is for e’rybody.

Wah Dem A Do (Bo Bliz blend)

Mavado is gully as hell, and he sounds hot on this. If you know the deal you can run this around the same time you throw on that Meez joint(the Robin S blend) from a few years back.

040208: Miranda “Round & Round (AJ & Humpty’s Dome Mix)”

So in the middle of a big house and freestyle collection of records I scooped off the ‘bay area (ebay), I discovered Miranda’s “Round & Round (AJ & Humpty’s Dome Mix)” from 1994 and fell in love with it. I play it out frequently in the middle of my very short and obvious House sets, and I even put it on our recent Crossfaded Bacon mixtape. The drums are absolutely knocking, and I love the synth line and vocal chops. This ish is too dope. Oh, and of course, Miranda’s got a myspace page and Richard Vission (aka Humpty) is in her top friends. Enjoy.

Crossfaded Bacon 2008 Mix

Named after their own independent record label and production house, Emynd & Bo Bliz’s Crossfaded Bacon 2008 Mix” is a double disc mix E&B prepared before hitting up SXSW this year for the Flamin Hotz showcase in Austin, Texas. Each mix is a tightly-wound, intense, listenable journey that demonstrates each of Emynd & Bo Bliz’s personal tastes, production, and DJing abilities.

Emynd’s mix starts off with some lesser known New Orleans Bounce music (including his NOLA Bounce remix of the South Rakkas Crew “Mad Again” which will be released on Mad Decent later this year) and then steadily progresses through some Hyphy, some up-tempo, breakbeat-heavy old-school rap, switching up rather dramatically to explore some House before finally progressing into Baltimore Club and Philly Party music (most of which is self-produced). The mixtape focuses on Emynd’s production abilities and showcases several tracks that will be released this year on Mad Decent, Flamin Hotz, and independently on Crossfaded Bacon Records.

While several of these tracks are club staples that never get old, Bo didn’t forget to include some rare and exclusive tracks you’ve likely never heard before, as well as several songs that he himself produced.

Check the VIMBY video of White T’s

yeah man. no footage from an actual white t’s party at the arts garage, but we love the love.also, me and emil started skating again. because of this, i was peeping some youtube footage of skaters. now, i haven’t really watched a skate video for a good 7 years. its pretty hard to believe how good people are now. my question is this… how much longer can the level of skating continue to be raised? besides competition, i don’t really know what is making switch kickflip backside nosebluntslides possible? whatever. anyway, my boy pete eldridge is fucking sick and way better than when i used to skate with him ten years ago(not surprisingly). here is some sick footage of him i was checking out. he kills switchstance and still has that dope, smooth, style.

one of the best parts about my 20’s has been me being able to see so many of my old friends succeed in shit they WANTED to do. life can’t get much better. I SEE YOU PETE!!!

Yeah I know, this is just a plain ole album cut. But we have put a lot of random shit from Freeway during this countdown and I don’t want to neglect his bread and butter. This is it right here. He stays focused and just kills all three verses mostly on some story telling shit.
